How do you know if you should rebuild yours or just purchase a shortblock from a quality place? I don't know where the quality place is, but the time is coming up soon as one cylinder's compression is signifigantly lower than all others. Others are pretty low also. Any thoughts?

:D Just mostly depends on you... If you know how to, have the tools and time, then rebuild it... you can put the parts YOU want in it then. However, if you want a warranty, then get either a short or long block. I would personally build it... that way I know what it's got in it... :D

There was a discussion the last couple of days on here. Someone found a rebuilt short block for $493., I think it was. That's pretty tempting if you're just wanting to do that and get a valve job locally. I'd be tempted to take a chance on that assy. for that price. Parts and machine work add up very quickly if you do it yourself.
But, Arch. does have a good point. It will cost quite a bit more if you do it yourself.
Oh, just rec'd an email on a rear main oil bypass kit to address the problem of starving rear mains in the AMC V8's. If you do the rebuild yourself, you might wanna consider this kit. It's pretty inexpensive.
