THE THING
11-15-2002, 12:17 PM
I own a 84 grand wagoneer with a 360. it has a motorcraft 2 barrel carb. this thing has given me nothing but problems! 2 rebuilds, 4 power valves. I have had enough! I want to replace it a mechanic told me the holly is almost the same but is harder to replace power valve so it would be no better! is this true? and do most 360's come with motorcraft? what is a good replacement? I can't take it anymore. any opinions or stories would be much appreciated

Get an Edelbrock or a Carter afb, you'll love it smile.gif But you'll need a manifold, and if the smog nazi's are there you may? be stuck. Some one from the area might know better than I

i can tell you from first hand experience that the 2-barrell holley is not to sweet off road. no matter what you do to the float level, it pukes out on steep inclines. on the street, it is o.k.

I have an 84 also and just replaced the carb with an Edelbrock 1406 along with the matching intake (the model # escapes me) the new carb has been on for a few weeks now and aside from some minor adjustments seems to work very well.

Hint: when you move the power valve connecting arm to the top hole be very very careful NOT to lose the retainer clip!!!!!!
You'll see when you get one smile.gif

I have noticed that I have had to adjust the idle several times as it "breaks in". This morning most recently.
