I posted a message about my loose steering column in my 87gw - it is loose at the tilt mechanism - and I appreciate the replies. The dealer offers a repair kit that includes two small ball bearings (about an inch in diameter) and some other stuff for $71. Could this be what I need?
Also, my rear window snaps and pops when going up - I read that it needs an inside seal at the top of the tailgate. Can I really get off this easy or is there more involved?
Thanks

My rear window also made snapping noises just before it got to the fully closed position - and also when opening it from the closed position. It turned out to be the bottom metal channel that is attached (glued)to the window was hitting the top of the tailgate where the rubber seal attaches. (basicaly the window was going up a bit to high when closing) since there is no adjustment for the window stop, I placed 3 evenly spaced thin wooden shims ( about 1/4 inch thick)under the U Shaped weatherstripping(at the top) that the window slides into when closing. The anoying snap has gone away and it's still weather tight

steve t check out this old thread on the steering column... http://www.ifsja.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=001731
As for the rear window, there are many things that could be making the noise. Your best bet is to open up the access panel under the tailgate carpet and watch it work...

steve t, about the rear window, remove the inner weather strip,(a simple test to determine if this is the problem)if the sound is gone, replace with a new w/s. Simple is good! I hope that's it. If you have trouble with the w/s removal consult, Technical library/Tailgate/How to trouble shoot an electric rear window...
