For those of you following the thread where I made a mess with my intake manifold, here is the "conclusion".

I installed the helicoil kit Late Saturday night AFTER the company Christmas party. Autozone called them by a different name.

I had really screwed the manifold up already, so I went to the next size up helicoil. It seemed to work pretty well. This time, the tap DID NOT break. And the coils popped right in. Nice kit. I need to buy some extras to keep for emergrncies I think.

I didn't have any gaskets left, so I used that gasket making goop, and left it to dry. I'm planning on putting the hoses back on tonight.

Should I go buy a real gasket and scrape off the goop, or just go with the goop?

So this is a continuation of the thread thread. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif I'd say get a gasket and put it together and hopefully never have to deal with the thermostat again. It seems kinda' silly after all your effort to not finish the job with the right parts even though goop-a-gasket may work a real gasket definitely will work. Glad to here of your success.

So it shall be written, so it shall be done.

OK, OK, I'll stop off and get a real gasket tonight on the way home.

Are we talking about the intake manifold gasket? Just a thought but if we are don't get the paper one as it won't allow your manifold to seat properly. Use the metal valley pan gasket and it's your option to use the included rubber end gaskets or use the goop.

No we are talking about the thermostat housing gasket. He stripped out the bolts a couple posts back.

Yepper. Thermostat housing. I bought two (89 cents each, what the heck, keep a spare)

I still have the valley pan gasket from when we thought we were swapping the manifold. That will get stored away for a bad day. I'm hoping I never need it!

I put the gasket in with a little RTV last night, and drove it to work this morning. No leaks. Seems to be working pretty good. FI works much better now that the car can warm up. I still need to play with it and figure out why I have so little power at the botttom end. If it's cold I still get backfire through the throttle body. I'm hoping to stop at my friends house tonight, so he can help me check the timing.

I have noticed an exhorbitant (I went to the big word store this morning too Scotty) amount of power at highway speed. My old Jeep would roll along at 60, but it had very little gusto. It had gobs of power from 0 - 45, and then leveled off like a Ford escort. This thing nails it pretty decent at 65/70. I'm wondering if someone put in a racing cam or something, and it's just not producing torque at the low end. Hopefully I'll know a little more tonight.

I'm glad to hear that it's working out for you. I'm baffled as to what could be causing your lack of power, if it isn't a timing and/or vacuum advance problem.

Did your new thermostat housing have a fitting for the CTO? That's certainly something to look into.
