The Draft EIS is out for the Baker resource Area. Comments due in by the middle of Feb.,2012.

I would like to see the OHV part of Alternative 3 be adopted into whatever alternative is selected. This would add a couple of more open areas along with Virtue Flat.

Link to the document: www.blm.gov/or/districts/vale/plans/bakerrmp

Email for comments: BLM_OR_BK_RMP@blm.gov

I have to have any comments anyone would like considered in a letter from our advisory council to our subgroup chair by the end of the month, so let me know what you want.

Comments to the email above will be considered on their own.

Thanks, Art

Comment period was extended until March 23rd. Our RAC sent a letter supporting my position on this, and we need to get more comments in to them supporting the alternative 3 OHV package, and a public recreational mining area.

THANKS

Hey Art, I checked that site out awhile ago but couldn't figure it out. I see an article in the Capitol press fri. that they have decided to cut off motorized access to some 4000 miles of road. Is that close to alt. 3 that you wanted? Could it have ended up being much more or less of restricted access. The article said people could still comment on the decision. Seems like the only ones who'll be affected are anyone who recreates. :banghead:

The article you saw was for USFS Wallow Whitman National Forest, and that was a final decision. The only thing now available on that one is the appeal process, and that is only for those that commented during the process. I'm sure that our 4x4 association will be working on an appeal, but you usually only have 30-45 days to get it in, and there is a lot of paper and maps to sort through.

The plan I was talking about is in the same general area, but a little south, and is managed by BLM. Whole different ballgame. They seem to be a little more ammenable to work with at times.

Yep, planning documents are a nightmare to get through with all your hair intact, but it gets easier with each one and you start to know what to look for and filter the government speak.
