Anybody know what this is? I found it in the bottom of my oil pan. At first it was sorta soft like a jujubee, and about the same size, but after it was out of the oil for a while it got hard.

It's the button that goes on the bottom of your oil pickup. It's to prevent the pickup from getting sucked down against the bottom of the oil pan and starving the engine of oil.

I don't know what the plug is, but I would be more worried about how that dime got in there.

They probably used the dime to secure the button against the oil pick up.....

The first time I did the oil pan around 160Kmiles.... I found the button in the tool box after the reassembly.... arrrrrgh.... I reinstalled it at 240Kmiles.... 10 years later

Well, not really. Almost as bad as finding the bypass valve in-line with the oil output. Guess the Chevy machinist didn't want any leftover parts...Del
