If you had a T-18 manual transmission, you would need is a 300 six to T-18 bellhousing, 300 six motor mounts, and probably a Ford T-18 input shaft too. I haven't ever experienced the power of a 300 six, but I'd say that a 258 is just as good as a 300. Unless you can do a conversion yourself or just have money to burn, I woundn,t recommend this swap. Of coarse, if you have money to burn send some my way or put a Lamborgini V-12 in it.

Well let me just clear this up right now.. I HATE FORDS with all of the fiber of my being.. I just heard this today and was wondering if there was any truth to it.. now this guy may have done this in the past but I have no way of knowing what other parts were in whatever CJ he was probably talking about so .. like I say . I was just wondering if this was right.. at anyrate.. you will never see me intentionaly puttin a ford product in anything I own.
Ill either stick with my 360 or swap in a total chevy drivetrain .
But thats all way down the road.. I got 135 grand on my 360 and its still strong. Needs a little tweaking but dont they all?

Ahhh the myth strikes again! The unknowing think AMC and Jeep never made thier own motors. They think that because AMC used a Ford cap and Ford type starter it must be a Ford motor. Or they think it must be a Chevy although why they would think that with the dist in the front is beyond me.
The 300 Ford is by far the best motor that Ford ever made and is much stronger that the 258 power and durability wise. I have seen 300 6's run without oil pressure for years. I always have to laugh at the prolong and duralube demonstraters that use a 300 with out an oil pan & valve cover and hose the thing down while running as these things are almost indestructable if kept cool. If I was to put any other motor besides a Jeep motor in my rig it would be a 300 as these things will outperform most small V8's

I'll have to agree with what has been said here about the 300 6 engine. I used to work for an airboat mfg and we had a Ford 350 flat bed truck with that engine. We routinely put one boat on the truck and tow another. You could run 70 all day down the Interstate and never break a sweat. One of the few things Ford has done right.

I was under the impression that the 258 was a stronger design for off-road use since it has seven main bearings. Is this actually true?

The Ford 300 has 7 mains too. I like the 199/232/258/4.0 family, but the Ford 300 is just plain stout and like I said almost indesrtuctable.

I regret to say that I have a F-250 service truck with a 300 in it. I agree that its one of the few things that F@rd still does right. I have heard that it is not a direct swap and you may have to move the radiator as the 300 is a little longer than the 258. That is some info I got some years back and I think it is correct. I'm not saying that it can't be done but it might be a pain in the butt.
