and i don't know why. I feel like all the jeep gods are giving me the finger with both hands. after struggling for hours last night trying to get my rear axle back into place after installing the blocks, i develop a gas leak at the top of the tank today after filling it, and it leaked like crazy. i go out to put a pan under the leak so the EPA wouldn't have a cow if they saw my jeep in its current state, and i find a new leak, leaking 5 times as fast, from a random spot in the middle of the bottom of my gas tank skid plate. i can't get around to dropping the tank to fix the leaks until the weekend, so for now i have to drive my dad's truck to school. what did i do to anger the jeep gods?

The Jeep Gods are testing your faith...

Haha, First check all your Tank hoses and make sure there clamped down good and not rotting etc, if all is good then your Check Valve Grommets are leaking when you top off,

I had the same leak on my Wagoneer when I bought had to replace the two check valve Grommets on top of my tank which is not just a PITA it's a PITFA First time I did one of the grommets fell in the tank, and it casually drifted to the front of the tank... So I had to drop the tank put in my patio and go fishing, after all that I finally get it back, Install it and guess what Still leaked from the Grommets!

So What I had to do was Drop the tank Again, Take out the grommets RTV Liquid Gasket those suckers in place, (generously) put the tank back in after waiting a day and then I never experienced another gas leak again....From the tank....

Heres my thread on the fix http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=134539

Let me know what you find :)

You are AWESOME! This sounds like the problem I'm having. I think once I drop the tank, I'll just go all out and replace every line, grommet, seal, and whatever else could go bad that hasn't already been replaced. I'm gonna go take a look at your thread. when I checked the tank today, i stuck my hand on top and felt a big puddle of gas up there near a fitting for a vacuum or return line of some kind (not entirely sure which at the moment).

And as far as the Jeep gods testing my faith, I get bummed about these new projects at first, but then I'm just pumped to get going. If only school didn't get in the way so much, I would have tackled some massive projects by now.

Yep! That sounds exactly like the check valve problem I had  be careful when taking them out and installing them they or at least mine were not easy to install, Patients and a flat head well help when putting those things back on the tank

I know exactly how you feel, I was in the same boat not to long ago, My jeep was my means of getting to school and when problems would come up they were never good times or "easy" fixes. It was definitely a learning experience but at least I was lucky enough to have a good part time job to support the jeep, Still though the jeep keeps getting me psyched up for the good "making progress" projects"
