Heres another one, while I have the engine out I want to check the clutch...what should I look for besides broken stuff. Also, I have reason to believe that the clutch disk was replaced just before I bought the jeep. just to be sure though, how much liner should be abouve the rivits. Anything else I should be looking for.

Hi MTN GOAT... Its been years since I did a clutch. Look for bad grooves and discolored metal on the pressure plate and flywheel. Look for Dis color and missing chips on the clutch. In the old days most of us,that could afford it,would put in new pilot & trust brgs....hope others will help......... smile.gif ....ds..

Look for blue spots on the flywheel and pressure plate, broken or missing springs on the disc and any material missing from the disc. I'd put in a new pilot bearing and throw out bearing, not to sure about the trust bearings though. Now is the time to do it right.

When you reinstall the flywheel and pressure plate use new bolts and washers.

I would resurface the flywheel, add a new pressure plate and disk. I would also put in a new pilot bushing/bearing as well as release bearing. Unless this was all done recently. It should be evident if these parts all look new if it was done recently. If not I would do it. As 64Trvlr said Now is the time to do it right. ;)
