Will one of you "whiz-bangs tell me how to rewind this thing? I removed my cargo cover to clean it up and straighten the rod a bit.
How does one go about re-winding it??? The spring is good, just a dummy at the controls !!!!!!!
Thanks A Million!

Anyone sacrificed their cargo cover to the dissection table yet?

That make 3. I struggled with trying to rewind my cargo cover all weekend. I think it has to do with the rod through the middle. When you sqeeze both plastic ends the rod comes out with a pin through the end that fits in a slot in the plastic ends. I tried turning it but could not figure out the direction. Got frustrated and gave up (the wife was calling).

I opened mine up last week to find out how it ticks.
As it turns out, the spring wasn't catching when I tried to wind it. I pinched it down with pliers to fix it. I wound the spring up tight and then put the ends back on while trying to be careful not to let the spring unwind. I'm not sure if that's the correct way to fix it, but it now works.

Great!
So tell us.
How did you open it up (in such a way as to be able to close it up later)?

Hold the cover vertically between your feet to stabilize. Push the end cover down past the rod and pull the pin out with pliers. I did it to both sides. But write down what comes out of each side.
I have to say that I tried to fix it a few months ago and couldn't figure it out. So I closed it up and put it back. Well, I knew I could figure it out and ripped into it again a few weeks and I did it.
Glad I can contribute to this site because I'm so new to FSJ's (4 months).

Not smart, just determined. I didn't want people walking by my GW looking at my stuff. It was either fix the cover for free or spend $350 to tint the windows.

Holly smackers...LOL 350 for the windows. $200 for mine. Limo tint all the back windows and rear doors. I know of one way and many have done it. Just get rid of it.

LOL, sometimes I want to. Like today, the rear wiper decided to start on it's own and I couldn't stop it. Finally quit after about 15 minutes.
I got a quote for $325 today for the tint. You paid $200 to have all 11 windows tinted? Man, I need to move to Texas, or at least out of CA.

It is not the "life time scratch resistant tint' but I sure like it. Just $200 bucks for every window. I thought it was a deal. And I cannot see in the back. Problem is I cannot back my trailer anymore after dark. Cannot see anything.
