Last week, I noticed a high pitched whine from my front brakes. Knowing full well that there was a lot of life on my pads, I pulled the brake apart. No, problems with the pads, but the caliper was difficult to move, and slow to return. Anyone feel like a thorough concise lesson in rebuilding?

I find that if the caliper needs rebuilding that it is often easier to get a reman caliper from a repuatable place. If it is just a matter of the caliper not moving well on the mount then get the "mounting" kit (I am not sure what the technical name for it is but it has the O-rings that slide on the pins and the clip that hold the pads) and some high temp brake grease and remove the caliper, clean it and the mount with brake cleaner, remove and replace the O-rings, lube the area where the caliper contacts the mount, and reinstall the caliper lubing the pins where they contact the O-rings in the caliper. Go light on the grease but make sure the contact surfaces are clean.

That should be done whenever you do the brakes, the kits are pretty cheap ($4-5) and this helps ensure that the caliper moves freely and sits straight on the mount.

Thanks Reddog, I'll try that first, then go with the reman. caliper.
