I just picked up a 1989 GW. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the largest size tire I can put on without a lift. I plan on doing some mild to medium off-roading, but don't mind a little rubbing under full articulation. Also, anyone out there have any comments about the Rough Country 3" 4 spring lift? It looks like a good deal price-wise, but how is the ride? One more thing, I paid $4,700. for my GW. It is in (my opinion anyway)excellent condition and everything works. Did I get screwed or is that a fair price? I geuss it dosen't really matter-I just like the dang thing so much. Thanks for your time...

Depending on mileage and condition (of course) you got a decent deal. My '91 was $4k with 171k chassis miles (only about 40k on motor and tranny, though) and the interior is in great condition. Needs paint, though--oxidation has struck! Tire-wise, from what I've heard you can go to a 31x10.50 with only minor rubbing with no lift. The Rough Country lift is a decent buy as long as you get the four spring variety. Also, there's an outfit called Rusty's something-or-other in Trussville, AL that custom builds lift kits for FSJs. His prices are supposed to be great--you'd have to ask some of the Atlanta FSJers about him.
BTW, welcome in!

I run 31x10.5 on my wifes 85 Wag with no rubbing from the body at all. You will get rubbing against the leaf springs in full lock turning. It is really minor givin the added benifit from the new rubber.
