258 to 360 swap

How long will it take to destroy the 3 speed trans in my j10 that originally had the 258. Im parting my j20 and want to swap in the axles as well since the transfer cases drop on different sides. Dont know if its worth the trouble for the t18 or if my j10 trans will hold the power.

The three speed isn't ideal, but you might as well run it till it gives up. I would have a t18 handy, because I suspect it is only a matter of time before the 3 gives up.

I would just go ahead and swap all of it. since your already there, and have the complete drivetrain, the swap will be easy. I did the exact swap. Got all my parts from a J20. The T18 is a very stout tranny. You won't have any problems with it. If you need any help, email me and I can help you out some. Dennis

The T15 3 speed is a very tough trans, I highly doubt it will fail.

My cj has a 6 cyl 3 speed in front of a 360. I race it in the local mud drag races and I'm dropping the clutch at 4500 rpm. i haven't hurt it yet and I'm running 33" x 14.5 Boggers! And thats after 2 seasons! They are a lot stouter than most people give them credit for.
