I'm starting to buy parts for my 401 now, and could use a little advice. First off, I'm definitely going with Doug Thorleys, so where's the cheapest place to buy them?

Second, I'm still trying to pick out a cam, but let me say what else it's getting. The 401 is going .030 over and will get the top-end from my current 360 (401-SR heads, Crane aluminum roller-rockers, Performer intake, 700 cfm Pro-Jection 4Di, custom DUI). I ordered Venolia pistons for 9.5:1 compression given the 61 cc heads.

For cam I'm leaning toward the Summit 8600: 112 214/224 .472/.496. I think my current Crower (112 204/210 .445/.448) in the 360 isn't opening up enough above 3000 RPM so I want a little taller lift. I'm kinda hung-up on the duration of this cam since I still want torque, but I figure the larger LCA will account for the larger duration. I used to have the Lunati 110 210/210 .470/.470 which I really liked too.

My only other thought is to get a custom grind; something like 111 210/215 .470/.480 to give me a good low end but enough valve opening for it to breath at mid-range and scare small imports out of my way. ADVICE PLEASE!!!

For what you got I think the summit will do ya good. There is a lot of people that swear by them. I'm looking for low end torque and the 401 I'm buying will be closer to stock than yours. The Lunati looks like a good option for me. Of course I'll end up changing my mind a few more times before I get to that point.

The Thorleys will be in the $500 range and you can get them from Summit. I had to wait approx. 6 months for mine to arrive because Thorley has to wait for the production run to come around before they will make any at all.
