Just found this board, and it looks like I've found a haome for my FSJ questions (which will be many).
I'd like to start with suspension lift.
Q: If I went with a 4" lift, what other mods will I have to perform (ie: lengthen drive shafts, brake lines, pitman arm etc).
The specs on my Wagoneer are; 1982, 360 CID, 727 trans, and part time 4wd.
Thank you for you time and any input would be appriciated. Thanks again.

Hey BoonieRat!!! Cool name!
Welcome to the BEST forums for FSJs. Got a lot of great people here!!!
First of all, for a 4" lift you don't really need a dropped pitman arm. You might wanna extend the e-brake cables but so far I haven't figured out how to do that yet. For all your lift ?s - go to the Archived section of these boards - there's tons of info there. Or you can do a "Search" for Lifts - more info than you'll ever want!
Good luck!
Oh yeah, be sure to tell us what kind of rig you got - change your member info so we can help you on your specific ride's needs. Thanks!

Hmmm some mods...
Yes on the e-brake cable, Needs about 1 inch more length...have not figured out mine as well.
ON the drop pittman arm..I believe it is depending on if you have any bump steer. I had to put the arm on mine...but have heard that not everyone is the same. So like I did I put the lift on and drove it a few times to see if I needed it...and I did.
Welcome to the best place on the net...A lot of great advice here.

Hi Boonie, first off, welcome to the board!
I'd like to invite you to join the Red River Valley of the IFSJA, just follow the link at the bottom of my post.
There's quite a few Texans on the board, and on the mailing lists.
As far as advice, and a great resource, this is the place!!

Welcome BoonieRat!!! :D
Cool name indeed! ;)
Driveshaft length has to be determined AFTER the lift...some need lengthening some don't...my 78 Waggie didn't need to be lengthend when I first did my Skyjacker 4" softride lift....neither did my E-brake cables... just shocks and I used drop brackets for the brake lines instead of replacing them. ;)
As far as extending the E-brake lines to the rear tires... I disconnected the cables from the frame mounts and made a new bracket and bolted it to the frame in the appropriate area... I'm about 6" back from OEM mount with my lift now...

rat,
part time...its been buggin me all night!
what transfer case do you have?
do you have locking hubs , with the 727 you should have a chain drive case on it.
if you look on the back center of the case there should be a round metal tags screwed in the middle.. right above the screw should be 3 numbers
like "208" "219"
(just so you know)
have fun

Thanks for the welcome, it's good to know I have a place to come to.
I checked the transfer and it's a 208 w/ 261 ratio. I should have said with manual hubs instead of part time 4WD. The output is a slip yoke. Is that common? I have a 78 F150 4WD and the output yoke is held on with a nut.
Now that I know there won't be a whole lot of "extra" mods, is there anywhere (or anyone) that you'all would recommend I start looking for a kit? Thanks again for your help and welcome.
Oh yeah. I am stationed on Ft Hood, but I live out north of Temple (noth and east of Troy).
And I'll see how to change my info so my Wagoneer info will be displayed. Thanks again.

BR, No, you are right to say part time four wheel drive, but what has some puzzled is the 208 was not factory behind the 727. I don't think it was anyway. We are WAY over our texan quota, but WTH, welcome anyway. You wouldn't consider moving to Oklahoma, would you? Your going to love it here.

Funny, my Waggie came with a 208 stuck on the back of the 727......The tag on the back of the transfer case should either say 208J or 208AMC if it is origional equipment.

Roger that, it's a 208 AMC.
"ODie" was originally from Colorado. The fellow I bought it from got it to do church (mission work) down in Mexico. He was going to give it to his son, but the son didn't want it. I was looking at Suburbans and happened to see it on my way into work. Paid $900.00 for it. Now I want to "spruce" it up a little.
Thanks again.

Hmmm, the stock output SHOULD be a fixed-yoke with a bolt holding it on. Are you sure the yoke slides in and out, and that the shaft itself doesn't have the slip joint in it? It doesn't sound like a transplant, since nothing else would have used this case (the smaller Jeeps used the NP207 and NP231's).
