What guage metal should I use to weld in on the floorboards? 16 gauge? How about the outside panels? And I'm thinking of steel diamond plate rocker guards. What size would you recommend?

16 gauge seems to be the general concensious, but 18 or even 20 would be enough to do the job, and be a little easier to bend, when necessary. You can also slightly crease the thinner panels to give them a little more support.

Just be sure to remove all the rust, or you'll be back at it again, and soon.

Hey Zack...

Make sure you contact Marc Banks on the diamond plate sides, he could prolly save you some $$$.

Also, after welding in the new floor pan, coat the metal with "Extend" rust inhibitor and preventor. You can find it at NAPA. It works as an inhibitor and a primer.
