Well, I took the advice given about removing the gage pad on my 77 Chero. After disconnecting the speedometer cable, it would move forward about 1 - 2 inches at the max. It seems that the heater control cable is now holding it.

I work for over on hour trying to get my hand and pliers into a position to where I could remove the dang thing. No such luck. Either my fingers have to grow another 3 inches or something.

Would it help to drop the steering column? If I do, is there anything I need to be careful about? Thanks guys :D :D

Just disconnect the heater cable at the outside box and feed it through the firewall, until you can reach it enough to disconnect. Then just hook it back up to the flapper.

Thanks Sitting Bull :D :D :D

That's what make this site so great. Sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees. An obvious answer and one that I never would have thought of. My wife would say I am suffering from too many senior moments. Thanks. tongue.gif tongue.gif

I've removed my gauges numerous times over the past few weeks (unfortunately). There should be enough slack in the heater control cable to pull out. I had to loosen the steering column to get enough room to pull the gauges out. I had to go back and forth a few times, but could get it pushed out about 6 inches with everything attached (using speedo cable to push from the cruise control).

No prob TM, I'm the same way. It took me about 2 hours of fiddlin' with mine before I realized it. What Dave said is correct though, there should be enough room, but sometimes they get hooked on all the crap behind the dash. Good luck.
