... The best way to learn after reading up on it is to but a junk carburetor like the one you are using and play with it. Then you can install it and see if it work right.
… here are links that will be helpful..

The factory shop manuals are good. They explain how each circuit works. There's a good article on the MC 2150 in the Tech Library of this site. The rebuild kits also include instructions and a diagram of the parts. I imagine most of us just started out by necessity with a bad carb we had and went from there. There are also a lot of after market books for specific brands like Holley, Rochester etc that covers just about all their models. Edelbrock has an online manual for their 1405/1406 carbs at www.edelbrock.com (http://www.edelbrock.com)

carbs is carbs. i started with a flathead ford when i was 12,( that was nearly 40 yrs ago  small engines , bug solexes, willys carters, lotta various rochesters, holleys, carters, a dellorto. re-assembled a 4350 with sheetrock screws on my 75 460 ltd. im no genius, i learn the hard way, by screwing up the 1st 3or 4 times i try anything. a practice carb sounds like a great way to learn. but why stop there? get a whole parts car to mess with. :D
