Guys,
I understand that the ammeter is wired in series with the alternator on FSJ's,which could cause an underdash fire if conditions are right. What year FSJ's had this kind of set-up? Mine's an '87 GW and I'm a little concerned.

your ok.in 86 they went to a volt meter

If you stay with the stock alt you are OK, if you upgrade you will still need to
upgrade the alt output wire and its fusable link to the appropriate guage for
the replacment alt.
