Ok, just for reference, for everyone on the board, i want to try to get a comparson of the strength of the T176,T18, T19, NP435, SM420, SM496, T98, SR-4, and T-4. My bet is that it is simething like this, in order from strongest to weakest.
1)SM465
2)NP435
3)T98
4)SM420
5)T18
6)T19
7)T176
8) SR-4
9) T-4
This is just a guess, I madethis post so people considering upgrades can see what they might want to use, based on durability and low gear. Agree? Disagree? this is no insult to anyone just trying to make a usefull reference post

i've always heard the t18 was stronger than the t98, mostly because of bearing and lubrication upgrades. ;)

the others... i dunno about. except that i won't touch and sm465 just because of the HUGE shift from 2nd to 3rd.

good luck findin info smile.gif

I'm not sure about strength comparison either, but I have an NP-435 with an NP-208 bolted to it out of a mid-eighties Ford half-ton I'm gonna part with. Saw it a while back, bought it, won't be using it. Anybody interested? Just like to get my money back. It'll be plus crating/shipping..
Hmmm...maybe I oughta' post it in the For Sale section...

I have always figured 1: Sm465, 2: T-18a....maybe I am wrong.

No idea, but I've heard the NP435 is stronger than the SM465, but don't know. They are both tough trannies.
