What are the possible consequences or advantages of installing slightly larger valves on a 360 head...Will a larger valve cause a loss in low end torque?
Regards
Brian
ps.....how do you guys get the faces in the text anyway??javascript:void(0)

Why on earth do you NEED larger valves? The 360/401 heads have some of the biggest valves of any small block made. The heads on a 360/401 are really pretty good from the factory. A bit of porting and they really do just fine unless your gona be looking for like a 750hp drag engine or something.
Larger valves wont cause a loss of torque if the cam doesnt have tons of lift.
To do a faces you can either click the little face buttons. Or you can go and do it by hand. A smile face is a : then a ) but with no spaces betweenn them. Sad face is : ( There are others as well.

Intakes are 2.025" and exhaust are 1.682" ;)
To get the faces I click POST REPLY icon on the TOP of this Page, not the one on the bottom. Once the new screen comes up with the reply box at the bottom left are the Instant Graemlins and Instant UBB Code options. You do not get them when you click the add reply icon on bottom of page ;) :D  smile.gif

Bigger valves to give more horse power yes. But for whhat jeeps are used for, valves arent what you need to change. Change the intake, carb, cam, and exhaust and you will have plenty of power.

The 'quick reply' at the bottom of the page doesn't have faces for putting in to text, although like Stuka said, if you type them they will appear as the graphic faces. You can have the quick reply option off if you want, that way either 'post reply' button on the top or bottom will get you to the page with all the options. smile.gif

Just replacing the stock valves with larger ones WILL cause loss of low-end torque.

A better approach is installing 304 heads, with the smaller valves. Increases low-end torque for your off-road use. Street cars with 360's find this popular too.
