Hello,
What's the difference between the 6.2 and 6.5 diesels? Based on what I've heard, the 6.5 is easier to supercharge (and much more expensive). Are these good motors? Any models that are more desirable?
Thanks.
Mikel

The 6.2 and 6.5 are generally the same except the 6.5 came from the factory turbocharged, the heads were upgraded with pre-cumbustion chambers, and later model 6.5's switched to electronic fuel injection versus the stanadyne mechanical fuel injection pump. Most of the parts are interchangeable between engines.

The J series engines are the best. They make about 10HP more and were made for 1 ton trucks. Also stay away from the electronic fuel injected models.

This is the engine I chose for my project. It is the lightest of the diesel engines, they are cheap and parts on the surplus market are plentiful, they are reliable, and they deliver 20MPG in a FSJ.

Hello,
Is the J model a 6.2 or a 6.5? Thanks.
