I think i might know what the problem is but i just wanted to run it by ya.
this just started today.
I started my 360 j-10 and began to drive it and it was suttering side to side at low speed and at the stop lights in drive .
but mostly between 0- 40 mph then it was smooth at higher speeds . after a 30 min. commute to work, it was still shuttering like mad.
any suggestions as to the problem??

It's a balance problem, obviously, sure you know that much, could be anything from the TC to flex plate forward, but could be your harm balancer broke loose from its rubber (had this exact same thing happen on a willys). Hard to tell without some hands-on diagnosis, but let's hope it's not internal, like a bent rod or something. Usually something big and external though when the whole chassis SHUDDERS (like the balancer, flexplate/flywheel, TC, etc., lots of reciprocating weight)
Since it happens at stoplights in drive, forget the driveshaft/rear end and look towards the tranny. Check your oil level if auto (TC may not have enough, maybe a front pump if you DO have oil and it seems to be coming from the TC being OOB?)
Good luck.

Don't forget to check motor mounts and tranny mount. If those are bad, then any out of balance in/on the engine/tranny will 'feel' multiplied.

Thanks for all of the ADD -VICE .
I will check all the mounts first.
that is what i thought/hope it might be.
on a side note i am a terrible mech. and speller.
but with the help of this great site both will improve.
thanks again.
My h-balancer broke free of the rubber too...it was rattling around on there...whole truck shook like the bejeevers. (whatever they are)
Easy to check/diagnose...grab on to balancer and see if it is still solid!

My balancer also committed hara-kiri, and trust me--a Magic Fingers bed is NOTHING compared to the ride I got! When I finally had the problem diagnosed, the mech said the starter was barely hanging on by 2 threads on one bolt--the other had been vibrated right on out! That was on my 401-equipped Cherokee, and it took me two weeks-ish to find another balancer.

It was a fouled plug!!!!!!!!!
That was it?
It wasn't as bad as i thought.
at least i'm rollin' again.
a 10min. $10 dallor fix.
wish they were all this easy.
