It makes sense to meet at my house. We can convoy to the park and check in at the same time raising the chance of getting campsites near each other. I don't have much hardtop parking but I do have about 7 acres of grass we can use. That should drive the neighbors nuts. :)

Looks like it's going to be a good show! 6 confirmed so far and we're still 6-7 weeks out. Make sure to contact anyone else who might like to come.

Directions and rollcall have been posted in the leading thread. If you want to join in on the fun, post here that you're going or PM me or Retro93.

Does everyone need/want electricity in the campground? This will narrow down our choice of loops and make decisions easier. Me personally, I'll be in a tent with a nice fire going outside.

Brown Bear
08-25-2011, 09:05 PM
Reservable loops with electric:
C, H

Non-reservable loops with electric:
A, B, J

I assume some people will bring campers or some such... J loop is all the way in the back, and closest to the lake.

HOOT

Since we have a nice base to work from now can you post a link in the Event Section and General FSJ and direct the traffic to here.

I'm fine for meeting up at Kim's place.

Annie wants electric for her blanket. I have a bunch of wood I need gone so I'll probably have a load of fire wood also.

No section preferred but over looking the lake sounds sweet if we can get in there. This may change as I spend some time mapping it out.

HOOT

We trying to stay in one loop? I can't seem to pull up how many sites are available in either loop. I want 2 days 10/14 and 15.

Hello all,

I will not be camping, but I do hope to make it either Saturday afternoon or Sunday Morning to meet all.

When it gets closer, I hope we can exchange cell phone numbers so we can track each other down.

Hoot, are you bringing a trailer? Mars might want the bed off of my parts truck, which would be ready to ship out at that time. Just a thought...

I am looking forward to meeting you all!

Take care,

I think we should shoot for Loop H. It's bigger than C so we might have a better shot of getting spots close to one another. I can't seem to reserve a spot on the internet, so I'm going to try calling them next week.

Oh hey Bear if you want that 360 it's complete top to bottom minus air cleaner. If you want it let me know and I;ll hold off pulling it so I can just pluck it and drop it in your hauling solution of choice. Also gives you the chance to look it over without it laying in the weeds.

hehe Never know what people bring, be it trailer, pickup, shopping cart. I'll drop that engine in your front seat if you want, just buckle it in. Don't want that rolling over to say hi on the way home.

In fact I can always drop it at Bill's and you can collect it there if that's cool with him. I need to see him about some cab bits and a bed anyhow.

Bad news. Twin Knobs is no longer taking reservations on their campsites for any dates past Sept 27. This means that if we want to camp, we will have to walk up and get our spots there.

Talk amongst yourselves: post here, PM, email.... and we'll choose up camp site partners. I think two tents per site is comfortable. PM me when you know who you're camping with and I'll post it on the main thread.

Hoot,

I just heard that there is a possible problem bringing firewood across state lines.

I believe it relates to Ash. but Please check it out...

What about Sid??? I have not seen anything from him.

Since I am only going for a day, he could meet up with me, and ride over if he would like...

Looking forward to this!

I have a topper on the back. The interior bed/couch has a huge hidden storage compartment. I won't be bringing any of my ash. All I'll have is oak and spruce if I bring it and some 4x6 lumber cut offs.

There's a good chance that we'll get an electric site. The 15th is towards the end of the season there, plus it should be a little cooler by then...most people don't like getting out in that, but then again, we're not most people!

As I was leaving work today, I noticed that a guy who lives in Georgetown, KY got his J-10 on the road. I'll tell him about it. Also, there was a 70's WT that was a guy's DD at work too. Got a photo of it to see if he was on here once on my cell phone, but washed my phone:rolleyes: . We work at the Toyota plant.

I'll most likely be at Kim's Sat am also. Unless I am still sleeping. My life runs on a different schedule than most. I am going to try and switch that around some for this weekend meet, but no promises. I'll be at work until thur at 5 am.
I'll get packed up and head out on friday afternoon and hope to be there by early evening.
I've got a few cases of Molson's "Canadian" Beer. Anyone interested? It's NOT for sale, but if you want to partake then let me know so I'll know how much to bring. I also have a 12 pack of Swiss beer. Can't pronounce the name and never seen it till we built their machine last month. Guys who have tried it says it is more like a Heineken Beer. Dark and heavy brew. :alc: I'm sure all the Degiorno Pizzas will be gone by Oct 15th.. Sorry..

Anyone interested in some FSJ parts?
I have some th400's to get out of here and a 727 0r 2.
Lots of small stuff interior and exterior.
Black headliner, dash and seats from a 78 Chero. Full carpet set as well bought from BJ's for the 78 Chero I used to own.
Stock J20 rims with nice BFG's AT's on 3 of them, one rim bare.
4 slightly rusting faded chrome spoke wheels 16.5 x 8.
Set of 4 aluminum slots from my 88 Dodge van. 5 lug 15" rims 2 of them 7" 2 of them 8".
NOS tail light assemblies for a J truck, Chero and early Waggy's.
I also have used sets of the above as well as the vertical wagon styles.
A few NOS lens for the Chero and older Waggy.
Razor grilles and I believe I still have some muscle grille parts. All grilles are used and have small blemishes on them some may have a down right wrinkle or 2. All excellent for driver quality, except one muscle surround that seen a harder hit to one side of it.
Not sure if it will be ready by then but there might be an 8ft. bed and a set of J20 axles available from either the 80 or 81 J20.
Depending on how things go here before the 15th there may be a whole J20 worth of parts available.
There are a few wide track fenders laying around as well. New aftermarket repops and some used originals.
Need a cap for a 8' jeep bed?
How about some center hubs for your old steel wheels. NOS chrome and a set of black. Lots of used ones also.
J truck tailgate? Used in very good shape or new take off in about as NOS shape as possible.
Steering box from a 86 waggy. Very nice shape, come from what looked like a sweet well taken care of waggy.
NP228 transfer case.
How about a set of baseboard heaters for your garage or shed? Bunch of different sizes a couple hardly used others are about 15 years old I think.

Anyone interested in convoying down from Cincinnati area? Looks as though I'll be trying to leave around 10 am or so. That time is very flexible but will let me be at the lake by around noon.

Truck had me worried, thought I'd be FSJless this weekend / jeep finally succumed to filthy rusty tank syndrome on monday. Had to drive it home 15 miles on idle. It would die if I tried to give it any gas. 15 miles at walking pace! Thank god for low end torque. 45 minutes later rolled in front of house. Later than night dropped the tank and found about 3 cups of red sand burying the remains of the pickup tube. Rinse, roll, repeat / rigged the pickup & re installed. All better! Looks like I will be up Saturday morning around 10.

HOOT

I do like the idea of a winter camp out, just not sure of the dead of winter. The reason I like Mamouth Cave area is the caves are always warm. Problem is I am so out of the cave loop I have no idea what it is like down there anymore. I'm not into long walking tours anymore either. I also have the dog to contend with.
While I thought the last meet was excellent just hanging at the campground I'm not so sure of it if it is 10 degrees out. Although we could have dual fires or maybe three of them and set up in the middle. If we had daytime cave tours or vette museum tours that may work.

I believe I'm going to blow off work from just before Christmas till Jan 3rd or maybe longer. I'd be up for something around that time frame. Although I was somewhat serious when I mentioned a Gulf Coast campout as I may wind up down south for some heat and R&R.

The Houchins Ferry campground at Mammoth Caves stays open year round. It has 12 campsites that are available on a first come first served basis. I doubt if there will be too much competition for getting a site in January. :) All the other campsites close 12/1/11 and don't reopen until 2/28/12.

Heck, the caves are right in BB's backyard. One of us can tow his rig over to the park.

I'm definitely on the fence for this... Just curious on daytime activities. I got the pooch to deal with so caving is out for me. Hanging at the camp ground like last time may be a really chilly idea..
So just what is up your sleeve with this ice box over nighter. I've camped in the winter before but we always went hiking during the daytime. I can no longer hike like that.

I'm a little perverse, so winter camping is right up my ally. When I'm by myself, I usually hike in, spend the rest of the day setting up camp, cooking a good steak, reading a good book, drink a good bourbon, then head off to bed. I could see this going much the same way. If you're really into action, there's an offroad park in BG just 45 minutes away. Depending on the weather, it's sure to be muddy as all get out this time of year. Me, I'm into just chilling....figuratively and literally.

I will try to make a day trip out of it, if the plan goes through.

Camping in cold weather and Arthritis do not go well together...

I do wish I could.

Again, I will try to make an appearance.

Keep me informed.

I checked into some info for the wigwams. NO pets. NO fire pit. NO HOOT. The wigwams themselves look killer inside and out. There are some good videos of them on Youtube. One video is of a vintage photo shoot using a 56 Chevy and a very nice model. Video shows alot of the insides of the wigwams as well as outside stuff. The opening bit where she comments on the tire swing is great.

I could probably find a doggy sitter if need be but still NO fire at the wigwams.

I did however found a kick butt deal on a room in Peru a block from the coast for $60 bucks a night. It is south of Lima and about 75 miles from the Nazca Lines. I don't think we would need a fire. Not sure how I wound up in Peru last night but it is neat that you can view some of the lines from Google Maps.

I sent them an email about the fire.
This might be a good option.. Pets are allowed and I'm sure there is some sort of fire pit. Still looking for that part. They have tent camping there as well is why I say there must be fire provisions.
Here is an aerial shot of this place. Out in front of the cabins you can see the big circular concrete tables and near them looks to be a fire pit. I thought maybe it would show the close up of this place. Zoom in on the intersection of route 70 and 255 on Mamonth Cave RD. Right where it makes the 90 degree turn, they sit in that turn..

Just found out about no fire or pets at the Wigwams - non starter for sure! I think I camped in front of the stone cabins several years ago. I was by myself and it was summer so I didn't have a fire but I seem to remember they sold wood so it must be OK. Nice bath house though (at least not nasty.)
Maybe just a pic or two of a waggy in front of the teepees.
If its warm we should just go with the national park campgrounds, but I'm fine with the rock cabins too.
