Having read all the threads on mufflers, can
anyone tell me what the *quietest* muffler is?

This is for a family, long road trip kind of
GW and I am looking for something that will
make the least amount of racket (especially
interior resonance at highway speeds).

Also,I need a new cat and was going to go with
random technologies. Are there any compatibility
issues that I need to take account of? That is,
can I combine the new cat with any old muffler
from Midas (!) or should I match the high-flow
cat with a high flow (but quiet) muffler?

Performance is a plus, but low noise (and
low emissions) are more important.

Thanks.

If you want super quiet, run dual mufflers like newer cars do. Or a single LARGE muffler like many new v8 trucks do.

Actually, the original exhaust setup was nice and quiet, so just get OEM quality stuff from a reputable muffler shop.

Rita was a trade in at a chevy dealership here..and before they figured out they would have to sink ten grand into labor getting the electric and window stuff figured out they slapped on a 2.5 inch stainless system with a HUGE muffler :D :D on her from front to back..I'm pretty sure it was something close to stock but she is super quite on the highway.

My stock muffler wasnt quiet really. It has a very distinc sound, with a decently low tone. I have a sound file of it here. The 80's wag's where quieter probably though. My jeep is a 75 and of course never came with a cat.
