The other night I came home and found the GWs parking lights on. The switch was off, so I disconnected the batery cable until the next day. Then I took it to the mechanic. The lights would not turn off, so he replaced the light switch. Also, since the brake lights plunger (I think thats what its called) was replaced. I took it home thinking all was well. But, when I tried to drive the Jeep at night, no dash lights. I turned on the interior lights (my door jamb switches don't work) and iblew out the clock, coutesy liights, and radio. Back to the shop. The mechanic has replaced and blown fuses, switched wires around, and now the dash lights are on 100% of the time, unless the courtesy lights come on- then the fuse blows. Any ideas?

I've been telling him that. But, he can't find it. I'm afraid all those orange wires will get mixed up before the short is found. Something is grounded and causing the light to stay on.

Tell him NOT to switch wires around as nobody switched them to cause the problem. Put them BACK!!!!! You can do a little investigation by unplugging one fuse at a time until you find the circuit that is causeing the short and then you can trace that circuit and find out where the short is.

It sounds like you have some wires that have melted of chafed and shorted together and the blown switch and fuses are just symptoms of the problem OR (depending on what year) maybe the dimmer switch if separate from the headlight switch is bad.

Depending on the year, if it has a floor dimmer switch, check that.
