Louise is starting to really harsh my buzz.
First, the t-case goes. I put in a new one, not a real easy job. Then, the radiator. Then the tranny starts to slip, I have to pay for a tune up since I had already done the filter etc.
Now, a steady miss at all speeds. I mean a real miss! So, I check the wires, timing, idle mixture etc. All seems good. So, I go for new plugs. Well, the old plugs looked sort of bad, not to bad. New plugs in, I start her up. Same miss.
I am real tired of all the work and hassle, I have FSJ burnout.
I know it is standard, but any ideas? Wires? Cap and rotor are less than a year old.
I am praying it is not mechanical...
I need a vacation...and some help.

Your miss could be lots of things - coil, EGR valve, vacuum lines, stuck valve, PCV valve, carb, brake booster, etc. Get a Chiltons book, and use their troubleshooting guide. You will need a timing ight and vacuum gauge, and maybe a compression tester. You may want to consider the TFI ignition upgrade.
Did the miss start right after one of your previous maintenance tasks? If so, re-check your work there.

Take a break from it to if you can. I took about a month long vacation from working on my rigs and now I am ready to get started again. When you are hating your rig, that is not the best time to work on it unless you have other no choice.
We've all been there Ernzo. It ain't just a FSJ thing it's a car thing. Remember, if it's got t*t's or wheels on it...you're gonna have trouble with it eventually.
It's a joke ladies...just a joke :D
Did you use good quality tune up stuff or the el cheapo autozoned $1.98 stuff? Look at the rotor for burnt metal at the tip and inside the cap for burns at the terminals. If the terminals are aluminum dump the cap and get a good one with brass terminals. Look for cracks inside the cap too. Are the plug wires/boots good quality? I'd take a VOM meter and check the resistance on each wire to make sure they're in spec.
Also as mentioned above...was the miss there before you fixed the last thing? If it wasn't it's a good place to start looking. Bout all you can do is just methodically go through one thing at a time like the ign stuff and make sure it's all well and good, then go on and look for vac leaks, egr working, cto's are operative, carb stuff etc. Prolly something cheap-n-easy once you find the prob. Most of this mechanicin stuff is 90% diagnostic and 10% actual repair. :( If it's not your daily driver just park the thing for awhile and come back at it later with a fresh outlook and a good attitude.

We are so sorry to hear that but knowing you is to know you will bounce back.
Maybe Louise needs a Rootbeer Float. Maybe some carbon build-up and sticky valves. And while your at it get a Rootbeer Float for yourself… best to you... CUL.. ;) .. ds..

Thanks for the pep talk boys, and I really ought to take some days off, but Louise is soon to be my daily driver, so fix her I must. The miss seems to come and go, the new plugs made it REAL worse, so I am thinking wires? I gap'd 'em at about 38 as I usually do.
Maybe the ignition system is getting too old for a gap of 38??? Hmmmmmm?
Perhaps the EGR, I know it can be tested by pushing up on the diaphragm, but I don't have the finger strength to do it!!
I have the Haynes manual and a OEM Jeep manual as well, I guess I will keep trudging tomorrow.
Don, I did put in some 2 cycle oil as you recommend, I know it is working, but this miss continues. EGR??? Hmmmm?? IS the only was to really test an EGR to replace it?? Mine is about 40,000 miles old.
ps, I really appreciate the help, even though a miss problem has little buzz value, for me it is all about today!!

I'd check your wires in the dark, with the engine running...see if you get a laser light show. It sounds like your wires to me...but that's just me.

...well, I found part the problem. Embarrassed I am! I finally got my head on straight, and I tested the wires at the dizzy, pulled each one out (rubber handled pliers) and found a cylinder not firing. Of course, it was the one behind the heater box… Well, the electrode was smashed. I had dropped it while installing and not checked!! Re-gapped and all is well, sort of. Still misses, stumbles, but I can work on that!
Hopefully my experience will help others!!

which plugs did you get? and replacing with new plugs made it worse... did you use the same ones..... or different.....
does it miss from the first startup when the engine has not been running overnight.... or only after warm up.....
