if the build date is between 2/20/89 and 3/3/89.

Tech Service Bulletin #278T says "Choke heated air passage hole was omitted on carbs installed in small number of involved vehicles. This results is rich carb operation and a poor drivability at temperatures below 53 degrees F. Carbs must be inspected for condition and defective cars must be replaced.

I was looking at one of those recall sites and found this. Mine GW has a 9/88 build date, so I'm out of luck, although mine stalls often in the cold weather until it's warmed up.

Maybe one of you out there can take advantage of this recall.

Rich,
Were you reading my mind? I'm scrambling to pass the Mass. emissions now, as I bought a 89 Wag that had spent all of its life in Maine and Vermont. ....but I think the PO had the carb rebuilt...

CT Yankee checking in. Had occasion to travel to the shipyard at Pascagoula MS, a few times...in August, no less. Talk about sweat pumps in fast speed! I think there may be fewer FSJs south of Mason-Dixon because of oxidizus maxim, and perhaps by being eaten alive by kudzu upon leaving the safety of asphalt. Had grits once while there. Emphasis on "once". One mouthful that is.

Got a good friend from Oklahoma. He's about the most honest person I've ever met.

I was mistaken about my Dad's Wag. It's an 88.

Mike: Seems to me that the missing part is only required to assist in getting the carb to full warm-up operation, and upon reaching full operating temp, shouldn't adversely impact emissions. Note: this is an arm-chair OPINION. If anyone knows for sure differently, let's hear it.

Mike: (forgot to mention) Since it only impacts carb ops below 53 deg., all the more reason to not be too concerned, providing you're getting tested in warm weather.

I'm from the South and proud of it! But some of my best friends are Yankees. That's all right.

Rich 89,
Where is that website for TSB's?
