What is the biggest tire I can do with a 2 inch lift or a four inch lift?

31x10.50 for both on a Wagoneer. A Wide track chero will fit 33's with a 4" easily, and in some cases with no lift. A J-Truck will fit 33's stock in most cases.

Just depends on sag.

Fender trimming will of course allow for larger tires.

I thought I saw a waggy on BJ's site witha 4in lift and 32's. I dont know at what point they would rub.

well if its a W/T you can fit up to and including 38's w/ a 4"lift. not 100% sure on sizes if its a wag or N/T.

-----edit-----
the 38's will need the flares cut off.

Well, it seems like a good time for my first post! I have a 77 chief that needed some new tires and a 76 cj-5 that is severely wounded, but with a new set of 35 MT-R's. So out came the grinder and after a few hours I made plenty of room for the new meats!!! All that with no lift. I'm still trying to make the body look acceptable after butchering it like that!!

I'm running 32/11.50 MTs with 4" of lift on my GW. Before I trimmed 1.25" from the rear fenders, the tires rubbed a very little bit at the front edge, at full flex

Now they don't rub at all smile.gif but I guess I have the equivalent of a 5.5" inch lift.

Like it was said, it depends on the vehicle. What kind of FSJ is it? you can typically run 33" or even 35" tires on a 4" lift on a Wagoneer IF they're very narrow. So in other words, 33x10.50s on stock wheels will clear on a wagoneer with 4" of lift, but 33x12.50s on wider wheels won't. 33x10.50s will typically clear on a widetrack with 2" of lift.
You probably don't want more than 31-33" tires depending on your gearing. If you've got 2.73s stick with 31s. If you've got 3.07s or better you can probably do the 33s with no problem.

A 33 will not stuff physically fit in the rear fender well no matter how narrow it is. So without trimming, you need enough lift to keep the widest part of the tire out of the fender well. I trimmed 1.25" and with 5.5" lift in back I have more then enough room even with my pretty wide 33's. (tread marks in the snow measure 13")

My J-10 came stock with 31s! :D I'm thinking with a 1" suspension lift and 1.5" body lift I should have plenty of room for any size 33" I wanna slap on there. Might even be able to stuff a 35" in there if I never hit any speedbumps or potholes....

Will the required lift needed differ between a Wagoneer and a Grand Wagoneer?

I'm only looking to fit 31"s/32"s for stricktly street/dirt road use.

Technically there are some minor differences in the stock setups over the years involving body mount thickness and spring rates.
It's really not more than a 1/2" here and there, so nothing to really be concerned about.

i run 31x10.5 on a gw with 2" of lift and get some rubbing on inner rear when flexed

thanks, my stock springs are sagged, I'll replace them with stockers and see how it goes. Not gonna flex it in anything bigger then a pot hole, I got another Jeep for the rocks.

Makes me wonder if I goofed. I just put 31-10.50's on my stock GW and stock wheels. We jacked it up every way we could and turned the wheels and nothing seemed to rub. I don't do anything more than a little muddin' so I hope I will be OK. If any of ya'll see troubles give me a holler and I can swap em out for the 30-9.50's I was looking at before. I got a pretty good working relation with my tire guy.

Doing "a little muddin' " will probably never be a problem smile.gif
