Rear window power thingy?

I need to fix my tailgate window switch that is on the outside. You know... the one you use a key to let down your window? The inside works but the tailgate switch does not. Can anyone tell me what might be the problem before I dig in? Thanks!!

Start searching for tailgate and narrow it down from there, it's fast and there's tons of tailgate info to read through.

I did mine yesterday. There is some pretty good information in the tech library. Don't let them scare you off though, it is not that bad. Neither of my switches were working, turned out the problem was related to the tailgate switch.

It has a little plastic paddle switch that is pushed one way or the other by turning the key. The little paddle on mine was broken. I took the switch off from the inside, cut the wires off from it and crimped them together and just bypassed the tailgate switch. I didn't have one of those silly little hollow torx tools to take the switch apart from the outside, and I really don't think it is necessary to do that. Let me know if you want more directions on getting access to the switch, you are going to have to move some of the guts of the tailgate around to get at it.

Just for kicks check the fuse/circuitbreaker under the dash, there is one on bottom for the dash switch and one on top of the fuse box for the tailgate switch. They are the bigger metal ones. Like I said, the tech library articles were helpful, just don't let them scare you off. I am a mechanical neophyte and I didn't think it was that bad. If you need help, I might can explain it better since I just did it yesterday.

Does the switch get power? The rear window defogger relay kind of acts as an intermediary. It is a 1 1/2" x 2" inch silver relay inside the tailgate door. Does your defogger work OK? If the relay is messed up, I could see that you might have problems with the tailgate switch for the window.
