Does anyone know which GM HEI unit can be turned down to fit 360?

Small block Chevy dizzy is used.

No, it's from an Olds application. It has to be turned to make it work but nothing major. If you use one from a Chev I think the shaft needs to be cut off, re-welded then turned. Much easier to modify an Olds HEI than a Chev.
I've got one listed in the For Sale Forum that's ready to drop in.

Any idea which olds application? I looked at a picture of one, and it looked too short. Any thoughts?

No not sure which Olds motor but the guy I got mine from that did the machine would know. Do a search for "Ted Wendel" in the tech forum. There's been a fair amount of traffic regarding the HEI/360/Ted thing and his email addy was posted. maybe if willing he can pin down which donor to look for.

Easiest thing to do (if possible) would be to take an extra 360 dizzy with you and go to a junk yard. A lot of yards will already have shelves and shelves of dizzy sitting there and will probably let you match one up. Then you can possibly get the application and post it back here to us. :D

I just got one of the dizzies from Ted. I know he says to use wires from an Olds Custom Cruiser 403 V-8. But I don't know if he says to use those because of the wire lengths or because that is the dizzy he used.

The machinist I'm dealing with sez send him a SB Chevy dizzy. I do know it's the Olds 403 wires that are the best length. I'm going to the yard this weekend I'll do some measuring.

I'd really appreciate the help, as i don't really live anywhere near a boneyard.

I have not yet put any more research into this ( daily driver disaster, started playing with Javelin, etc, etc ) I just need to head over to an old racer and friend's house to see if he still has this spec book that last I talked to him he  thought  he still had, his memory is getting bad these days but anyhow long story short the book cross references all the part numbers of distributors cause back in the day as you may know they used to rebuild these things and you can cross reference part numbers for shafts and bushings and if you are the racing type flyweights for the timing advance ( NO not different springs - WEIGHTS - springs change the curve, weights change the RPM range of curve ) so as you can see anything is possible by mixing and matching parts

here's best price I've found on HEI conversion - http://www.mm4x4center.com/

I forget what Ted charges IFSJA members, but it was a good deal and worth every penny. I looked at this project for quite a while and couldn't get comfortable doing it myself. To do this right you need to be precise or you will be chewing up cam gears right and left. If you don't have the right equipment, I would recommend contactng Ted and ordering one. If you are a machinist, get after it.
The one thing I don't like about the conversion hei is the way the lower end of the machined housing fits the bottom of the hole in the timing cover. As you can see from the pictures below, the conversion doesn't fully contact the bottom like the original does. I'm a little worried that it will wear quickly. The stock is the first picture. It is hard to see, but in the second picture you see about 3/16" of housing that is not machined. There is also an extra flat washer added at the bottom to space the gear down that I am not too fond of.
