I have an 85 GW with a 360-2V and a 727 transmission (so I thought). Went to change the transmission filter and fluid and found out I have a 999 transmission (hopefully it will not turn into a "666").
Was this a standard combination? Does anyone have comments on the 999?

Interesting, How do you know it is a 999? It may have been swapped in there I suppose. 999's were only used behind the 4.2 Engines. I guess if you have one, and it still drives then you have no worries. ;)

Thanks for teh response.
With my limited abilities I don't know for sure what I have. I bought a transmission filter for a 727. When I got the transmission pan off the filter shapes did not match. I went back to the parts store and the counter man said the only other option for that year was the 999. When compared, the old filter matched with the new 999 filter.
Could there be another transmission that was available that may have shared a common filter with the 999?

Maybe the PO put in the wrong filter??????
will the three screw holes match up on both filters? If the screw holes match up I would guess you have the 727, but someone put in the wrong filter. Check to see if the 727 filter would screw in.
Just an idea...
I have read a few posts where people have 999's behind there V8's...but it was not factory

Actual footprint of the filter was different.
Something I did not think of was that maybe the parts dealer gave me the wrong one to begin with and was covering his mistake. However, I now a serial number off the transmission. Maybe jeep can identify from the number.
