I have a chance to get a factory T-18 with bellhousing for 258(guy says it came out of a 79 J-10). what t-case can I bolt up to it? and what would I need to bolt up my NP208?

also would a NP435 be better for the lower 1st less of a gap between 1st and 2nd?

No way to adapt that T18 for an NP 208 unless you can find a 80+ J20 with a manual.
It would be easiest to swap front axles if you want to run that T18.
Have some info on my T18/208 swap - http://panther4x4.com/t18a/

An NP435 wouldn't be bad. You could run that with an ford np208 or 205 and that way you don't have to swap the front end.

hmm, I think im going to pass on the T-18 then and wait to find what I need to put a NP435 in. do NP208's bolt directly up to the 435? also what t-case have the same bolt up as the NP208? im pretty sure the 207 and 231 are the same(at least the the 207 in my shed looks to be the same bolt up) and I know the 231's are the same as the 207. I believe the other XJ t-case are the same as well.

If you want a NP 435 then you want the 4x4 version with the t-case attached.
The ford output will be 31 spline so you can't use your jeep 208 (23 spline).

ok, so find a NP435 with 208 attached, find a CJ T-150 or T-176 bellhousing with shift fork, ball and spring. the 208 in my truck right now will be good for parts if needed right?

just had a thought. does the starter bolt to the t-150 and t-176 bellhousing?

The starter should bolt in the same spot as all the AMC motors (except the 4 bangers) use the same starters and bellhousings. After chryo took over things got a bit hairy but you don't need to worry about that.

ok. so I need a bellhousing from a non 4cylinder t-176 or t-150 then?

Right. Don't think the 4 banger ever came with those trannies so you shouldn't have to worry there.

To answer part of the question , a 79 j10 with a T18 would have had a dana 20 case behind it so you will need a dana 20 and you will need to swap axels to pass side drop in front, find the axels from that j10 and it will work
