FYI- My AMC20 was a full quart low after about 3500 miles. The other day I was parked downhill and could watch it drip out, finally checked it today and was quite dismayed to see it take a full quart.
gonna try and park it facing uphill from now on. (till my axle swap of course)

Speedi sleeve or redi sleeve. Puts a new seal surface on a grooved or pitted shaft. Have you replaced the seal? Sometimes you can drive a new seal in and stop before they bottom out. That will make the seal ride on fresh non grooved metal. But if your going to swap it just park up hill. A seal swap would not take more than 1/2 hour though.
I know someone who has been looking for a wag or chero AMC 20 housing for awhile. Don't know if it would be worth it to ship all way over to Oregon though... Want to sell it?

Kaiserjeeps, thanks for the info, I hadn't considered fixing it until I realized it leaked a quart betwen engine oil changes.
So do you just unbolt the driveshaft, remove the pinion nut, yoink the yoke, inspect the shaft, r&r the oil seal? that sounds like a two beer job,(maybe three) think I can handle it.
thx,
Robert
edit: y'all will be the FIRST to know when the swap happens and the old W/T axles (3.31) become available.

It (the pinion nut) is a big one (bigger than the standard socket set), and it is highly torqued, so they can be a PITA. Impact wrenches are nice :D
But if you have the right tools, it should be a cinch.

Yep, that pinion nut might take a hefty impact or big breaker bar to tighten correctly. I know that in the GM rear I messed with the specs were something like 200 ft-lb.
I'll be replacing my stock gears for 3.73s soon and will find out for sure. Good luck.
