I'm trying to decide on the cam on my rebuild.
1) Summit 8600 $86.95
2) Northern Auto's High Energy 260H $122.99
This is gonna be my daily driver when I get it done so I want the best choice. But yet I still want to be able to tow a camper or car trailer.

A number of people on the AMC forums reccomend the Comp Cams 260H. Comp Cams claims both a power increase and milage increase with this cam. Hearsay on the other boards seems to support these claims.

I am putting in a Crower Baja Beast cam in my '79 J20. I was tempted by the Power Beast but the Crower Tech said the Baja Beast was perfect for what I wanted good mileage and boost in HP and torque over stock, and it gave good numbers at low to mid- RPM's. I paid around $96 from Summit.
A note: I like Crower since they seem to really design cams for each application. Unlike some others, Crane for example, take a look at the grind info for a few different makes and they are identical! Then check Crower and they are different for each. This is important since each engine has its own flow characteristics (due to head design and size).

While chatting with BuckeyeWag this afternoon,
I told him that lots of the fellows here recommended the Summit 8600.
Come on you Summit 8600 owners!
Wake up and support me here! smile.gif
Chero77: Wonder if the positive experience of the AMC Forum members using the Comp Cams unit is based on go-fast cars applications?

However, its worth mentioning that Comp Cams also reccomends the 260H for SUVs, pickups, etc. I don't want to sound like a sales rep, so I'll state now that I have no personal experience with this cam. I am just passing on hearsay.

I run the Competition cams .268 HYD. and
components. I have been very happy with its performance. Great low end and med range RPM
torque and a bit of bumpity bump. ;)

8600 here.
Seems solid all the way from down low to up high.

I've got the 8600 in my 401 and I wish I'd gone bigger. It might be fine in a 360 though (in the same way that the Edelbrock cam works great in a 304 but is a dog in a 360).

The summit cam is actually a great camshaft, it feels identical to a performer cam from edelbrock but at a fraction of the price, heck ive never even flattened one, get the kit, you wont be sorry
