I was looking to upgrage my ignition system to a TFI system on my 258.

Does anyone have any experience, comments on their conversion?

I kind of like idea of not having to change the dist. gear, but then again maybe that adapter is less reliable.

And if it matters eventually I plan on putting on a 4L head.

Thanks,
Dave

I've never heard of Cape Conversions so I can't comment but if it were me I'd just go to the Chev HEI setup on a 258. Cheap and works great, lasts long and parts will be available for ever.

Dave,
All I can offer is that I have seen their website and read a little about them but have no experience with the company or know anyone who has.
They are from Mass though.
Let us know how you make out.

Where are the dist. adapters found? Are these specially made (so the dist. does not have to be removed?).

For people who have converted here, did you guys change the dist? Or use one of those adapters?

I know little about I6s but I believe the adapter you are talking about is an adapter that allows the use of a larger diameter Ford cap/rotor on the stock distributor like the V8s. If so then the adapter is foolproof. I have never heard of anyone having a problem with them. Note that at least for the V8s the parts needed to do the conversion are easily available at your local parts store or junkyard if your cheap like me. It cost me about $75 to do the TFI on my V8 with Accel cap/rotor, new plug wires and the rest (coil, bracket, connector and adapter) coming from the local pick-ur-part.

I did the TFI upgrade to my 258 and its nearly the same as with the V8. I havent heard of cape conversions (is this the juicebox) anyway, for the "do it yourselfer" have a look at the Team Rush ignition upgrade http://www.jeepz.com/offroad/howto/engine/tfi/

Its really good on the cheap.

I too have done the TFI swap on the V8, but if it is similar like mtn goat said, it's well worth it. You are using common Ford parts that can be gotten at most any parts store. Cost me just about $100 for my '86 360 using new parts (TFI coil, 8.5mm Accel wires, new plugs, dist. cap adapter, rotor, wiring harness). I was a little unsure of that distributor adapter when I was putting it on, but it seems to work just great. Good luck.

I used the cape conversions "juice box" tfi upgrade. Parts are good quality, mounting bracket is nice. Came in a timely manor. It would of been cheaper to drive up to a parts store here at school (about like an hour away but at the time my ignition coil was shot) so i just got every thing delivered right here at school. And I also like giving a local guy some buisness(I am fromthe cape smile.gif ).

Seen it before looks like a pretty complete kit.
