I make mounts to bolt in GM Gen III & IV V8s into our FSJ's. You pull out your AMC V8, bolt these mounts to your new GM V8, and bolt it into your FSJ. What is a Gen III GM V8 you ask? The LS1, LS2, LS3, 4.9L, 5.3L, 6.0L, etc. All can be bolted in using these mounts. They come unpainted, use a FSJ 2" rubber bushing, and are supplied with hardware to mount them to the frame horns. $150 + $15 shipping USPS Priority Mail.

I also can make up mounts to bolt in an Isuzu 4BD 3.9L diesel engine. The frame horns have to be removed, then these bolt in (no drilling).
Finally, I've designed a motor mount setup that replaces the factory AMC parts. They do away with the failure prone rubber block. The factory stand off is removed, and these bolt in place. Here is a picture side by side, new vs old. $150 + $15 shipping USPS Priority Mail.

I use 1/4" plate & 1/4" tubing. The V bracket welded to the tubing is formed 1/8". If you break the metal parts, I will replace them. The bushing is an off the shelf FSJ 2" spring bushing, available from rockauto.com for $10. These are made to order, and it usually take me three to four weeks to get a set done.

Nice looking work you've got there!

Can you do mounts for the Cummins 3.9l 4bt? You would need to use a more flexible bushing than the spring eye bushings. I have a 4bt and a Cherokee. Someone needs to make it easier to put these two together for a Cherokee that gets good mileage and has a lot of range.

Can I? Yes. Do I? No. But I do know what bushing to use, and I'd be more than willing to do so, but I don't happen to have a 4BT handy :D

I have the Cad Drawings of the ones i built for my 4bt and had CNC plasma cut. they use the 1st gen Dodge ram cummins pad mounts on the factory frame horns. Maybe we can work something out.

How close would these mounts put the motor in relation to the firewall? i would be worried about valve cover to heater clearance as well.

Have any pictures of the AMC replacement mounts installed?

Those look great! Too bad I didn't know about these before I did my swap. I think I like them a little better than the ones from BJ's as far as ease to install. I am very happy with theirs though. They work very well.

Thanks to Andy (andyjk1), here are a couple pics of the mounts doing their thing...

Sorry for the long delay Kansas_Nova, been a busy fall for me. There is room between the heater and the valve cover. Very similar to the stock 360. The sending unit for the water temp gauge goes in the right side head, and the port is at the back of the head. It is a bit of a contortionist's act, but you can get your hand in there to change the sender.

what about 5.7 hemi mounts is that possible?

Anything is possible, but I don't have a Hemi ;)

Check your PMs, Pete?
Tried to reply to your PM, but it says your mailbox is full.

Do you have a set for the 6BT? I may build my other rig with a 6.2 or 6.9 IH. When I did the 6.2 swap in my YJ I used regular SBC mounts. I am not familiar with all the GM specs but are these other GEN I, II, III different from a older small block?

I don't know the specs on them either, but the old small blocks and the LS series don't have similar engine mounts. I know you can buy plates to bolt to LS motors to use old style mounts, not sure about the other way around.

No, I do not have a set for a 6BT, but that is something I should look into. Seems to be a lot of interest in that motor.
Yes, the Gen III and Gen IV are a different pattern, and in a different location that the Gen I and Gen II SBC. Just so happens the newer location is real close to where AMC had it on the V8s, which makes my conversion mounts possible.
What about mounts for an earlier Chevy small block (or even big block)?

I've looked into it, but it doesn't really work with the factory frame horns. A set of bolt in mounts could be designed, but they would cost more than the AA or Novak mounts, and you would lose the ability to place the engine where you want.

Pete,
Just a curiosity here...
If you had a rolling chassis and a 6BT to work from, what else would you need to build some 6BT mounts?
Would need a J Truck Cab?
Front Radiator Core Support?
Steering Column?
... inquiring minds want to know! hehehe

I think you named it.

Two questions for you...
1. I know Novak recommends you weld around their mounts, do you feel it would be necessary with yours?
2. Also you said they use a 2" FSJ rubber bushing...is said bushing included?
Thanks,
Collin

1. No
2. Yes

To the several members who have inquired about mounts. I am a bit behind, but things are starting to roll along now. Bushings are ordered, as are the plates. Looks like next weekend will be a motor mount weekend

I'll be in touch about the Isuzu diesel mounts if I get the motor I'm after (it'll be going into a '68 IH Travelall) I'm hoping I can use their version of the AW4 (beefier) from the '99 up Isuzus with 4H diesel motor

Welded up the engine plates today. Found out I ordered the wrong bushings. Those in the picture are for a XJ Cherokee, not a FSJ. I was thinking of building a 4 link suspension, now I guess I have the bushings  The proper parts have been ordered tonight, so hopefully next weekend I will have 4 sets complete.

Pete,
On my AMC360 set you don't need to press the bushings in. I might have to use poly bushings depending on how I wind up mounting my trans and tcase.

just curious - the 3 bolt mount 'looks' the same as the 1995 LT1 sitting on my garage floor. Can you verify that these will work to swap a LT1 (Gen-II) into a FSJ ?
thanks
JeepinPete
04-26-2012, 02:56 PM
No, they will not work on a LT1.
To all that have been patiently waiting, I do apologize. Work went nuts on me unexpectantly, and I've been working 7 day weeks until this past week. I should have a break from work for a week or two. Should be able to finish up the 5 sets I have started.

The mounts look great. I have a 2000 and 2001 GEN III 6.0's ready for some use. I have been putting off buying the motor mounts from everyone else so far. I really like the way yours work though...very clean and simple. Just a few questions though.
1. When using this mounts can you reuse the truck manifolds from a 6.0?
2. I am of course mating the 6.0 to a GM TH400 but reuse the QT. When using your mount will the engine set back correctly between the frame rails to align accordingly back with the driveline? Or will the driveline's need to be adjusted again? Or do your mounts have a adjustment?
JeepinPete
04-28-2012, 09:59 AM
1. Yes, they fit fine with factory manifolds. The driver's side manifold may or may not work. Some dump right on top of the frame rails.
2. I honestly don't know the answer to your question. I haven't had anyone keep a TH400 and QT with the Gen III engines. The only adjustment is choosing which slot to use in the factory frame horn.

I have three sets of LS motor mounts, two boxed up and ready to ship, one set I will finish up when I get time. Get 'em while they last!
