Got a new bearing and seal pressed on the axle but having some trouble getting the old race out of the tube. Tried using a gear puller with the jaws turned around but nothing for the screw to push against, (I'll be needing a new inner seal now too). Do I get to buy a new tool?
Thanks,

It is just "aged" in place.... it's not pressed in at all. Just use a penetrating oil and a big hammer to knockit loose... kinda sideways as not to push it into the tube (won't go anyway). Mine just slid out after I slammed it once or twice with a chisel to rotate it.

Thanks Todd. I was able to rotate it in the tube but not pry it out. I'll let the PB Blaster work overnight and have another go at it tomorrow. I dinged the inner seal messing with this, is there any secret to getting that out?

A three-jaw inside puller has a cone-shaped fitting that presses the jaws outward; then there is a slide-hammer to exert the actual force.
I borrow them for free from Autozone.

I knew there had to be a better mousetrap when I was fooling with this. Thanks Bob!

i used a big pole inserted thru the other axle tube and knocked him out from the rear :D

Well, if all else fails...I'll know what to do! ;)

Arter, I've removed about a million races by welding a bead around the cone/face of the race and they just drop out as the weld shrinks the race as it cools. Do not do this if you are not a talented welder tho...
