New Jeep J10 Owner in Northeast Oregon. Cove to be exact. I bought a 1979 Jeep J10 Shortbed last summer. I have been working on it on my time off from my Job in New Jersey. I had to redo the wheel bearings and other part to get it reliable again. My most recent modification was putting a 3" lift on it, just enough to fit the 31" tires on it. I has the V8 4 speed manual in it. I was hopeful to find more Jeep pickup enthusiasts and help finding parts for it. I am hoping to find a sports side bed, a new grill, weatherstripping for it and other parts, can anyone help?

Hey man. Not familiar with the cove, but I have spent a fair share of time in Baker and Halfway. Nice country out there.
Welcome to the forums. Good luck on the parts hunt.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! You guys have made me that much more excited to get it fully fixed up. How do I post the full sized photos like I have seen on other threads? The two photos that are posted are what it looked like when I first bought it. Since then I have ran dual exaust with glasspacks so I could lift it. With the new tires and rims. I would like to post those up for you guys. Along with my custom lift that I made myself in my dads automotive shop.

you need to sign up for "PhotoBucket". (Its free). Once you've downloaded your pics their. I open it up in a seperate tab and hover over the pic; when the drop down window appears, click "IMG Code" and "copied" will appear in the window. then just right click and paste it into your message where you want it to show and WHAMO! It'll be there.
Good luck.

Used to be another guy on here from Cove a couple of years ago, had a yellow J-truck, IIRC.
Our former RAC chairman lived in Cove and worked out at the ag station for OSU.
Friend of ours in Irrigon plays with trashhaulers if the green one in the background wants to go away. (mostly scouts though)
Nice looking J BTW

Finally Home!! This week of home will be concentrating on my weather stripping. Last night I replaces all the side marker and front turn signal lenses from parts I got from fellow IFSJAer and BJSOffroad.com, they are looking a lot better than the ones that came off in pieces. I will post more pics after I get a little more work done :)

I finally got some work done on my J10!
I got the weatherstripping on doors and windows changed out. I changed out the side marker lenses. I had to get new horns and horn ring in the steering column. Had to change out a leaky radiator. I found out that the 4X4 wasn't working due to a faulty hub, replaced those. I got a rollbar from a junkyard and refabbed it to fit my bed. I custom built a Spare gas can holder for in the bed. I built a spare tire holder for inside the bed that I still have to mount. Got my CB installed. It feels so good to get stuff done!

Last night I decided to be brave (and I wanted to go on this date) So I took my poor Jeep on the freeway to Baker City. The wind was blowing so hard that my passenger mirror ended up looking straight down. :grumble: Since I have been having to fix all the little tinkering issues, I wasn't sure how well it was going to do going that fast for that long of time. It held up very well, didn't shake or shimmy too much, but it definitely isn't a freeway rig, pretty rough ride. All in all I was pleasantly surprised that it only burned half a tank of gas! I have been having Carb problems, so I rebuilt the carb that was on it, and kept blowing the power valve, so we scrounged dads shop and found 3 Ford Carbs and built a working one. Today we are going to test the pulling power by taking my 25' travel trailer camping for a day or two.

Just the other side of Baker up on top of the hill, down in the field on the south side of the freeway is a J-truck with a flag paint scheme. You can see the red and white stripes on the box and when you get to where you can see the nose you see a couple of stars. Just about at the end or just past where to construction is taking place.

Sweet about the J-truck! I will have to check that out.
On a sadder note, due to the loose steering the trailer was a very scary trip:eek: till we hooked it up to my dads Ranger. We are going to try to tighten up the the steering and see how that works. Another task we noticed is that it either needs stiffer springs in the back or overload springs... any suggestions on springs? And, I while we were camping my inside door handle on the driver side also quit working :banghead: had to hit up the local junkyard today to get a new one. If anyone needs any parts, B & K auto always have plenty of J trucks and GW's coming in and out. The saying is true... Just Empty Every Pocket

Got the steering tightened.. it turned out it was a bit toed out, and I switched the shackles to the back of the front springs, and it rides so much nicer.

Sweet!!.. Did it affect your performance, or lift, by modifyin the shackles?.. I'm lookin at possable another SkyJacker lift for my J-Truck, or maybe a Super Lift.. although the Superlift kinda scares me, bein less than 1/2 the price of the SkyJacker..lol.. This is my J-Truck.. She's a 78 GE

Very Nice truck.
switching the shackles made it ride a little smoother and it didn't change the height at all. I built my own lift kit, but it works well.

How did you build your 3in lift, I want a 3 or 4in for my tuck and was just curious. I was also wondering how it rides, and was it expensive?

A 3 inch block in the back between the springs and axle, with the guide pins and holes in the blocks so it can not slip at all. the front, I drilled out the rivets in the front leaf spring mounts and welded a 4" block between the frame and mount, and moved the shackle to the rear of the leaf spring for a smother ride, and a drop pitman arm for steering. pictures to come.

Here are the lift pics:

Now I did drill holes and welded in new guide pins so that the axle can not move on the block and it keeps it straight.

We were in Baker last Thurs and Friday, and Thurs night while at Barley Browns having dinner with the group I saw the flag paint job go by, so it is alive and well.
