View Full Version : Tucson Wrenchathon - May 14 & 15

This is the beginning of the Phoebe Too resurrection. The donor Wagoneer is scheduled to be in Tucson this Friday. FnK will be headed down from CO on May 13 and back home on the 16th. We still need to get the wreck to Tucson from Queen Creek then get wrenches on both of them. Please post up if you have some time to help on the weekend of May 14 & 15. A more solid plan is formulating and will be posted here.
Thank You.
If we can't come up with trailer transport for P1 by May 6th I can just go up in the ChopTop and flat tow it back with my grab and go bar on the 7th.

Just got this from Casey:
> I'll get in touch with Tad and Bob (rstep) to do some ground work
> ahead of time. I was planning on getting Phoebe down here this week.
> I'm on my long weekend starting today. I'll drive up with the shop's
> trailer to bring her down. I don't think driving her down is the best
> idea since all the panels and glass might be under stress and could
> fail. I should be able to get her on the frame rack before the swap
> to check the frame and straighten if needed.
Thanks for any pre-planning and footwork y'all do there Tad. Much Appreciated.
Oh yea, sounds better all the time.
I think I may be able to work an after work refreshment deal out with the Shelter for all that can help also.

Here's some of the initial plans I've got...
Probably Saturday, I'll go up and get Phoebe from Queen Creek. Next week, I want to get her on the frame rack to check her out and see if any pulling or bending is needed. Both will then get parked next to each other for a good overall comparison and some prep work. Figure out what parts from each will stay or go
On the afternoon of the 13th, they will get put inside on their own lifts and maybe some initial disasembly (hood, fenders, etc...) so that when we come in on Saturday, things will start flying. I fully expect both bodies to be sitting on the their new frames by the end of Saturday the 14th. Should go pretty easily with two lifts side by side.
For those that want to join in, the shop is at 3530 S Dodge, near Dodge and Ajo, Johnny Macs is the name.
PM me for details, phone, etc..
There are several fast food places near by as well as a Circle K. We have a couple fridges and a microwave in the shop
Casey,
PM or call me if you want someone to ride shotgun on Saturday.
We've got other muscle here coming also in the form of Chris, another local FSJ'er, Em will help coordinate work site munchies and refreshments if she is in town that weekend.

Sounds good. I'll be going up with Mom and her fiance this week to get Phoebe. It's his F-250 I'll be using to pull the trailer. It's a 24' tandem that is a little more than I want to drag with my Jeep.

Just talked to the truck driver and he has been in touch with Casey. Delivery in Tucson this evening. Nice!
...and it is at the Tucson shop right now. Thanks for the footwork and handling the money transaction Casey!
Now that we are here. I think it is safe to say, we will not do business again with the shipping company. There was a few times where mis-communication or no communication then at the last minute, the driver is expecting to pick up the Jeep. Some were not prepared for inop vehicle. I am just glad it is finally delivered.
That's great!
I can head over just about anytime this weekend and do some prelim work if needed.

This is soooo true. Not sure what you had to pay, but their service was definitely lacking. And as nice as this driver was, he still was unprepared to load an inop vehicle. Luckily he was able to improvise and after about an hour we had it loaded.

Cool Bob.
Was there yesterday talking with Casey. He's hitting her with PB already, I'll probably make a few stops after work prior to the swap to remove, box and tag items for later.

EXCELLENT!
So - I was loading some FSJ parts in Jerry's Cherokee this morning so all we had to do was load it on the trailer once he rolled in. Made room in the parking area for him to flip a U. Now, we got a 727 & 228 headed to Ralph, a 258 manifold set going to Gwinn, 4 stock steel wheels and dog dish hub caps for Jerry and Flint got hit in the head with the hilift while letting the jack down on the last flat tire. It mashed the fabric of his hat into the skin. A moment of silence while he goes off to scream at the trees. Keep laughing, it is good for me.

I sorted through spare T400s yesterday. Got one here from the 76 Chief we sent to the crusher last year. I drove it on and off the trailer and around the house but not out on the road. We will bring that one and good used TC. The BJs order came in on Friday so we have new body mounts and more.
No issues on the side glass and the seals look good enough.

He may be happy with the repair.. I don't think it is a favorite car...What got fixed on the Subey was the alarm system. One of the mechanics there was very savvy with alarms and said he could fix it no problem. I said "can you just remove the alarm system?!" yes said "no problem" We are gonna eBay that thing to get some lost money out of that thing. I hate that car. Verified Hate. Not many things cause me that kind of feeling. I tolerate the car because... well I am fairly tolerant. :p In 1100 miles it leaked 6 qts of engine oil. The front seals are blown out. Again. And now needs brakes. Again. Oh Well - this is really just a car. Not anything near an FSJ.
OK - on with Jeep talk...

I must say that it has been a long time that I had gotten a little greasy with others that worked as hard and together as this bunch. if this happens again here, i'm in. Thank you you all for welcoming me into the fold.

Ok call me a barbarian I don't understand why they just didn't take a sawzall or a torch to that tailgateThe way we did it was more fun - besides, there were parts to salvage inside the tailgate.
The barbarian melting of steel was saved for this...

We'll get that worked out with Chris's login.
I figure we take this weekend to regroup then get that stuff installed in your Chero.
Then....

She'd only come to get shown off in the parking lot of the KOA. I put enough dents in her in November to last a lifetime! I have Big Fugly that I don't mind denting tho. Maybe she'll come down one of these trips.

It was a great place to pick up on some knowledge.
I learned how to grind down rivits, replace with bolts and nuts and a little bit of welding.
I watched in amazement as Bob patched sections of body from one jeep to another.
I found out that even just one year apart the Jeeps changes more than you might imagine.
I took off my first dash cover. (Note: The only way to get this off is to take pretty much everything off the dash first...)
And the front clip really does come off/on pretty easy....
The tranny only has 3 flex plate bolts (the 727 has 4)
When dealing with a quadra-trac... let flint go it alone. He has some kinda special one-on-one relationship with getting them to mate to a transmission...
