more rear axle questions

What is the weight lube to use and can the bearing retainers be bought at the parts store or is this a dealer item?? Will GM parts interchange?? My best friend is a GM parts manager. Thanks

I've been using 80w-90w in mine with no problem. As for the bearing retainers, if you mean the press on thick ring inboard of the bearing, it comes with the bearing itself. If you mean the plate to the outside of the bearing, it is a dealer or Salvage part. I am a GM pars manager myself, and I can't clearly say what is all the same. In the front end, at least on my '79, the gasket, and seals are the same as '79 full size Blazer. The bearings are probably the same as well, but I've never checked. alot of the brake items interchange with blazers. the best way to check that is to use an AC/Delco line book. What has worked best for me as a manager is to just use what I know from GM, then buy the rest aftermarket.
