Hello, again!
My reverse is noisy/grindy sounding. It moves/works fine, and no noise in any other gear. Bad gear or something? I believe the PO said the clutch and some gears were replaced. Ideas? Thanks!

this may hurt, but it sounds lie broken teeth. Is it hard to put into reverse or is it just like any other gear?

There is hope! I have T-18, and if the clutch linkages are not adjusted right, and the clutch doesn´t disengage 100%, it won´t let me shift into reverse (GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!). Even if you have a couple broken teeth, if you step on the clutch at a stop, everything inside the tranny should stop after the inertia goes away. Try shifting into another gear and then quickly into reverse, see if it grinds. Can you shift into reverse easily with the engine off? If you can, I would say all it needs is to have the clutch linkages adjusted. Good luck.

Well, I can shift easily into any gear, including reverse. The grinding sound comes as I'm moving backwards, and isn't there when I'm stopped and still in reverse. It's almost got a 'whine' sound. Not really awful, but definitely different than the other gears.

Sorry to hear that. It might be a gear with broken teeth or a bearing. I´ve rebuilt a couple of trannies, but not a T-18. Others with more knowledge might be able to give you a better diagnosys. Good luck.
