I have a 1978 cherokee with a 401 and quadratrack. The chain in the quadratrack is slipping and needs to be rebuilt. When I have it rebuilt is wise to have it converted to part-time, if so, what kit is the best. Also, is the aftermarket rebuild kit as good as the Borg-Warner kit?

Thanks,
John

I doubt you mph will change much, but there would be less wear on the front end components. I like the full time 4wd, but do miss being able to cut donuts. So to me, if comes down to whether or not you like the fulltime 4 wd. Also, if you are an on road driver, you can get a 16% over drive kit with the part time setup.

Good luck,

daniel

The GM TH-400, BW-1339 was one of the best tuff combos produced and were very successful in Baja racing.

... Be aware there are some QTs modified with PT kits that will reduce the crawl ratio and require locking hubs. A 16 % Overdrive also equals a 16% WORSE crawl ratio which was not all that great to begin with Plus you will have to get out and lock / unlock the hubs.

If you are in a situation such as partially snow covered streets, you can lock the hubs and simply switch from 4 wheel drive to two and back as needed. I have the 16% O.D. unit. I use the 16% alot more than I use a crawl ratio. For where I have been wheeling, I have not missed anything.

To my knowledge, Mile Marker is the only one who makes a part time conversion for the Borg Warner T/case. If you just need to replace the chain, make sure you get a Morse brand or the equal. Price should be around $90.
