I was cruising around at Boulders OHV park today and I got to thinking(Oh Oh). Maybe some of you in the Phoenix area would enjoy a day of Wheeling In the Northwest Valley. It is located between Lake Pleasant and Wickenberg. I do about a 20 mile loop that takes about 3 to 4 hours. The trails are alot of up and down riding getting to an elevation of 3000 ft. They are narrow and brushy in some areas.(Arizona Pinstipe Alert)
I plan on going back out Saturday April 9th. Meet at the staging area at 8am.
This would be a morning run. But if you want to make a full day of it there are plenty of trails to explore. This is a great place to do shake down runs after mods. So come checkout this beautiful Desert OHV park before it gets to hot. Click on link below.

Bill, that's cool. Get that thing running. This is the first of several trips I have planned in the next 2 months. All in different places. Maybe you can hit one of those. Gotta get the wheeling out of my system before it gets hot.;)

Anybody going to camp? (I see camping is allowed)

It's a possibility for me but a long drive to just go run and come home the same day.

Never mind, this sucks, my fault for not thinking.
I have to go to traffic diversion class that weekend.
Can't go before then, can't go the next weekend, going to need a week for prep and that puts it on Easter/Spring Break.
I'll be wheelin' SO NM for Easter/Break.

Sorry,
I do try to make as many of the AZ runs I can.
Thanks,
Tad

No problem Tad. I figured this would be a little far for Tucson folk. Yes there is camping for future reference. Have fun in New Mexico. At least your keeping dirt under your tires.

Only supposed to get up to 68 degrees on Saturday. Might even get a little bit of rain. I love the desert in the rain. Shaping up to be a beautiful day to spend the morning wheeling.

Tad the turnoff is about 6 or 7 miles past the turnoff to lake Pleasant when your going to Crown King. Just to give you a reference on how far it is from you. And speaking of Crown King I'm planning a trip up there in about a month. So it might be better to save your gas for that one. It all depends on if there is a Mothers Day run up north.
After saying that. The turnoff to Boulders is not marked. And, can be easily missed. If you or anyone wants good directions to get to there this Saturday let me know.

Count me in Jeff. I think I can find the place, but if you got better directions than the web site then please give them.

Go ahead and send/post your directions Jeff.
I'm going to try, need to get out someplace and it's about the same distance as Silver City.
Might be this state budget thing messes it up and I have to do some work this weekend but I'll try to work around it.

Mike, I haven't heard from you in awhile. Welcome aboard. Is your Dad coming? Hope you can make it Tad. Do you plan on camping?
The best way to get there from the east is take I17 to the Carefree Hwy. (Hwy 74) exit. Go west on Hwy 74. Just like your heading to Lake Pleasant. The Boulders is sometimes called Mile Marker 11.5. Because that's where the turn off is. When you get to Mile Marker 12. Start looking for a guardrail on the right about 1/4 of a mile in. It is the first guardrail on the right after mile Marker 12. As soon as the guardrail ends there is a RIGHT hand turnoff. This is the entrance. About a 1/4 mile in is the staging area. I will try and be on the right side by the sign.
It is supposed to rain. And like I said in the first post the trail has alot of ups and downs. We will be in some washes. So be ready for some water.
This should be fun.

Jeff, I'm not going to be able to camp this weekend.
If I can make it I'll have to head back around noon, lots of stuff going on.

Go east on Hwy 74. Just like your heading to Lake Pleasant. Uhh, I think you mean WEST. :D

Had a great time today. Got to wheel with some old friends.(Tad, Mike and Al) And met a new one.(Dave) When I left my house it was raining. By the time I got there it had stopped. Because of the weather we had the whole place pretty much to ourselves. No one broke down, no flat tires and NO DUST. It was a relaxing, beautiful morning in the desert. Thanks guys.

Thanks for posting pics Jeff.

The wet weather made it a good day to pull weeds. Sure wished I was wheelin'!

Must be running a little rich still.
375 miles / 44.6 gallons = 8.5mpg or 375 miles / $158.94 = $.42 per mile
Actually not that bad for this rig overall.

Was great to see Jeff, Mike and Al again and I was very happy to meet Dave for the first time.
You AZ folks need to get out more, that hot cooking summer is right around the corner.

Wow, I was so busy busting knuckles getting ready for Moab that I missed this. We left for Moab on Thursday in a snow storm that cleared within 15 miles then had wind storms up there and got all the dust and no rain, LOL. Anyways, looks like a good time - especially if you were not chewing dirt at the end of the day. Thanks for the pix!

I also see the new tires suite your Waggy Tad. :fsj:
