Ok, have my heads off. A burnt exhast valve is obvious. but everything else looks good. I have the rockers off, and was wondering, are the valve seats supposed to be down in the head? I look at each spring, and some have just the valve stem inside, and some have the valve seat sticking up. Is this normal? Or should they all be down into the head? Im assuming that thats what im looking at. Looks like a sleeve around then valve stem. Dennis

The "valve seat" is the surface inside the combustion chamber, that the valve closes against..What you are looking at inside the spring is the upper end of the "valve guide" that is machined into the head...it is a protrution that helps locate toe spring and helps with oil sealing as well...Regards

Here is a pic of my bare 500 Caddy head. The bottom of the Valve Guides can be seen in the Valve Seat picture as well. The Valve that was burnt inspect the seat area well to be sure it did no damage to it. Might be best to take the heads in and have them redone
