help, my fuel guage seems to drop too fast. just kidding, but it does have a lot of slop in it. can vary alsmost a 1/4 tank depending how hard im accelerating, or stopping. Im a new FSJ owner 91 GW. Is this a typical prob with these rigs? thanks

All depends what type of sending unit you have. If it's the original style the float will bob up and down in the tank kind of quickly with sudden movement. The newer style is a different design and is much tighter and won't move with sudden movements of the gas.

It's very typical for FSJ's.If you do a search on fuel gauge you'll find numerous posts. You can access the fuel sender by folding the rear seat all the way up and pulling the carpet on the load floor up then you'll see a round plate on the driver's side of the floor(if it's never been removed it will be riveted)You can remove this plate and check your wiring and also the sending unit(ohm readings should be in the posts)the ground on my '88 was at the rear of the driver side frame rail(Jeep changed the wiring in '89 so not sure if this will be the same)
