Well I have looked at 4 different rebuilt distributors in the past 3 days. Three were at NAPA and one at Advanced Auto. They were all rebuilt by a company named Cardone (spelling unknown). They had shot blasted the aluminum housing to the point that there were no sharp edges to be found on any of the 4 dizzys. Some exhibited very deep pitting. The smooth machined surfaces that the distributor uses as a mating surface to the timing chain cover were like 80 grit sand paper. They had raised the surface so much that the one I took home would not even slide into the cover. The others... one had the gear so blasted there was pitting in it, the third had the gear dished out from wear and the fourth exhibited most all the above noted observations.

In desperation I called the dealer and they did not have any distributors nor were there any in the state or any source they had.

So it appears I will be spending almost $240.00 for an MSD and then another $150.00 for an MSD 6A box.

I hope everyone else had had a better week working on their rig than I did. In the end it had better be worth it :D

I bought one from AutoZone for about $60 and it went in just fine. I've been running it for over 7 months.

Hey Bruce...

You'll love the MSD, sorry if it sounds like I keep spending your money. Took me a while to figure out the best advance curve, but it works good.

Now.
A rebuilt dizzy that has the old screwed up gear still on it ?
That blows. I'd tell the shops to get a new supplier...

Try 4wd Hardware (http://www.4wd.com) for a new one. They list them in their catalog. 800.333.5535

Part# P4529684 $169.95

Its a new part though...

I have always wondered what they really rebuild in a distributor. They never seem to have new shaft bushings or anything like that, and the pickup wheel and trigger always look old. Just cleaned up and sold for a bunch. What makes you think you need a new distributor? You can replace everyting inside with a trip to napa and probably end up with a better deal than you get with the rebuilt.

4WD used to sell a new mopar distributor for $119. They jacked it up to $169 and I noticed that they are now out of stock.

I got mine from pepboys and it was smooth cast and everything appeared to be new. It went in easy and still works fine. I think it was around $50 and I don't remember the company-it's a motorcraft.

Good guy to deal with. (They use to be less the
$100 , but DC jerked all the prices about a year
ago)

Well I have made the decision to go to the MSD distributor and be done with it. Jegs has then for $216.99. $60.00 more than a new one that no one seems to have.

Kris you enjoy spending other people's money. I understand.
