I am clueless....I start the wag and the oil pressure gauge is at 25. Let it run and it sometimes goes to zero then jumps up to 80, or it is around 25. Today it was up at 80. It is going crazy! What should I do?

What year Truck do you have, I know in my father's 87 Grand Wagoneer the oil pressure gauge does the same thing. Usually it will just peg on 80psi and stay there. That's the newer style dash cluster. I have never liked those gauges.

Also, your pressure sender could be bad or you could have a loose connection somewhere which could be causing the gauge to do what it is doing.

If you have a later model rig. It sounds like you either have one of two things.

1. Bad or faulty pressure switch/sending unit.

2. Or possibly the wire leading to the unit has a bad connection.

I would check the wire. Located right above the oil filter. If the wire is okay...it is worth just replacing the sending unit. It is cheap. Mine did the same thing. It was the sending unit.

Check/clean the connection of the wire at the sending unit. If the wire isn't connecting it'll peg the gauge. I'd guess it's loose and/or gunked up.
