the front QT CV is too close to the th700s pan, had to use a normal single ujoint front shaft, and even then the clearence is soo small.
what i want to do is to rotate the QTs output yokes down towards the support xmbr, via a 3/16" indexing ring between the adaptor and the QT. (ill make one)
my question is, will there still be enuff engage ment of the trannys output splines within the QT after being spaced out 3/16"??
or is 3/16 plate too thin to begin with?

no one knows what you are talking about....
how short is this going to be? 3/16.... then you are prolly still left with 9/16.

i know what he is talkin about, he wants to "rotate" the case downwards towards the x member using an indexing ring. i duno about the splines, but if it works i say u could make somthing out of it. have someone make a gaurd also to protect flying driveshafts from taking out the trany.

Ken,
I am trying to picture this in my head... <geez, that is scarey> Is 3/16 gonna be enough to bolt to? I guess you are talking steel... The shaft goes into the sun gear a good ways as I have seen these hang pretty far out on the shaft while doing R&R. You can always check where the wear is on the shaft/gear mating surface to get an idea of how far in it normally goes. All, this said, I think you are probably safe with 3/16 for the mate to be good.

Ken,
Are you using an adapter from AA to mate the 700R4 to the QT? If so, didn't they take into account the clearance issues?

its an AA kit and the instructions reed that u CANNOT use the normal CV front shaft, it must be replaced. im researching options/warnings for those thinking of swapping in a 700.
what really steams me is that in the instructions, the 4wd output shaft installed into the th700 must be shortened by 1" in order for the OE QT adaptor to fit into the holes in the xmbr when atttached to the tranny. there is a spacer/adaptor between the th700 and the OE QT adaptor. (an adaptor for the adaptor ;)
i surmise that if the trannys output shaft WAS NOT shortened and the QT was pushed back that much that indeed there wood be enuff room for the normal CV shaft.
this of corse means nu shafts FnR, but in the situation right now, a different front shaft is needed anyhow.

Ken,
I'd like more information on what the AA kit consists of. I sent you a PM with the details.
Thanks..Kim

Does anyone think it would be an issue with a NP229? I'm new to 4x4 and wouldn't recognize the differences between a QT and a NP229 if the Qt fell on me{hoefully the 229 won't}.

Not sure what you have for a rig, but the Q-Trac will only fit behind a TH400 Trans, While the NP229 was used behind a TF727.

the QT has the front drive shaft on the P side while all jeep NP cases are on the D side.
since the internal passages of the th700 are shifted right of center, NP cases will not have a front driveshaft issue.
