Hey Jeep-hedz,
I have been looking for a bit for a decent price on a remanufactured 360 engine to drop into my '87 Wagoneer. So far the best "deal" I have found is through Advance Auto on a Recon 360. They are looking for $1359.99 for it plus a core charge of $250.00. The motor has a one year unlimited miles warranty and that's it. I was hoping for better than this but maybe it's a pipe dream. Let me know if anyone has seen anything better or will sell me something similiar for less. Thanks a lot!

Steer well clear of the Advance/Autozone engines...they use cheap parts and don't last. I know of one lister who installed one and the darn thing rattled like a penny in a coffee can. If you want a good reman, go with a Jasper or ATK engine...on the other hand, you could find a good shop in your area (and in NC it shouldn't be that hard) to rebuild YOUR engine. Sure, the above options are a LITTLE more $ but you'll save in the long run.

A jasper is a good choice.I just checked that yesterday.I think it was $2300.00 or $2500.00+not sure if was core price with that.It showed they had them in stock. They listed a 401 but no stock and was like $2700.00.I have good luck with thier engines.

I had Jasper rebuild the motor in my Vette. They have a class II option that was $700 extra. They put in way better parts and you get back a higher HP motor. I went from 235 HP to about 285. Same pump 87 octane fuel. So far so good.

If you are serious about saving $$, rebuild it yourself. Summit racing (800-230-3030 or http://www.summitracing.com) has a basic rebuild kit that has everything you need for $469 - piston rings, rods, timing chain etc. If you don't need to change everything you can do it for less.

you could also try www.jegs.com. (http://www.jegs.com.) They put me on hold and I got impatient.

I am in the process of installing an engine from "The Engine Factory". Looks good so far, though I will know for sure once I get her running. The basic reman comes with a 12 mos warranty for 1500. I got the upgraded valve train and a 36 mos warranty for 2150 delivered. I now kind of wish I did the rebuild myself, but with all the machine work and parts (quality), I would be looking at over 1500. Anyway, good luck.

Oh yea,You can still get a reman long block from Chryssler. My cost was 2500, so retail is probably over 3k. IThe good thing about that is you get a nation wide 3/36 factory warranty.

I got a long block from Road Runner...I have the paperwork somewhere...been running for 5 years now...good solid motor (I put an alum. Eldelbrock manifold and a Carter carb with 3" flowmaster exhaust) The long block cost around $1300. They use quality parts.

I did the Jasper 360 last year. Around $2400 plus a "install ki" which had the dist, plugs, wires ect. Shop removed and installed for $900.

Probably could have saved, but the Jasper humms, and the shop ( North Hills Automotive,Greenville, SC) is pricey but reputable...no leaks, runs drips or errors.

You aren't far from the Upstate SC, and there is a Jeep nirvana called IRONMAN 4 Wheel Drive in Dacusville (i.e. boonies).
I didn't know of these guys, but I would have taken my GW and dropped it of for a 2-3 weeks and let these guys rebuild the 360.
They live and die Jeeps...all makes/years.

I'm not mutch on crate engines.

I bought a core (mine was destroyed) and had it built for my 87 GW Big Grin. In addition to having a trusted machine shop do the work I was able to have the engine line bored, balanced and decked for only a couple of hunert more. In addition, all the new stuff was top quality; not cheapest available. How much? $1320.00 not including the core.

Seems the best way to go, for me.
